Hi Gary;Looking to find out the 126 electronic ignition used I believe it was called FSM and was widely used in Poland, does anyone know the full name it used please.
Hi Tom,Hi Gary;
The systemthat you are thinking about is called "Nannoplex" and was used on the last of the air-cooled 126 cars (that were made in in Poland). Some of the parts required are available'on-line', but it would most probably be best to try and get a complete system from Poland, even if it is 2nd hand---I think that they can be obtained for about £200 (just under 1,000 Zloty). The system uses a crankshaft pulley specific to the system and does away with the distributor completely. (in fact the last of the air-cooled 126 models, the ELX variants, did not have the distributor mount casting machined for a distributor). I know a man in the UK who fits a lot of these systems, and says that he has very little trouble with them.
Hi Gary;Hi Tom,
Had a very long chat today with kelvyne what a wealth of knowledge he is! He planted the seed about this system which he said was very reliable, Will also explore other options too Looking at Accuspark and 123 system I think is dutch.
He has a flywheel and will sort which is most suitable, have sent engine No to establish this.

which I think is basically the nanoplex system upgraded, rather than using a specific front pulley with the three lugs cast in, this system replaces the alloy oil centrifuge cover with one that locates three similar metal lugs, mounts a pickup in line with these and has all the needed wiring.
they also do this system

I pulled the trigger on buying one of these sets, 400euro delivered to Australia, so I'll let you know what it all looks like in a few weeks when it gets here... turns out it only costs a slight bit more than a 123 ignition, and this kit has EVERYTHING ... that's a dual output coil, ignition module, wiring loom, pickup / trigger and mount and the oil centrifuge cover that makes it all work, and completely eliminates the distributor, even includes the plug to fill the unused hole!

A tip Steve---the 2 securing points for the "Sensor-mount"----use studs in the crankcase to mount this, or you will not be able to fit/remove it with the crank-pulley in place. The 126 engines tended to use long 6mm bolts (whereas the 500 uses studs) to secure the 'timing-chain' cover and they (the 2 required to hold the "sensor-mount") cannot be removed with the crank-pulley in place---seen the video, worn the'T'shirt!. I have also bought parts from "DMD"---always been of a very good qualityFirst up I have to say this is in no way a paid ad... I bought this item retail for my own use, the seller gave me no discount except to round down 400 euro inclusive of freight to Australia, and I paid no GST or import fees as the package was under $1000aud. Landed cost was just shy of $700aud.
This cost compares very favourably with other options like 123 ignition. Yes this set is a little more expensive, but I like the idea of removing the distributor entirely. I also don't like electronic items positioned right near the hot exhaust, and IMO this is perhaps part of the reason a lot of the 123 sets fail in this application.
First thing I noticed is how well this was packed. I sell parts internationally and buy a lot of bits in from around Australia and overseas for various projects, and l believe how well someone parcels something up tells you something about how they view their products. Especially with electronics.

First item I looked at was the trigger wheel, the biggest shiny part. The tone ring is now a much nicer design than shown on the sales page. It's now a full circular ring, quite cleverly located and pinned, it's not a press fit, it just fits well. Cover comes with a new O ring which is nice. It's actually a nicer item than I was expecting because of the upgraded tone ring design.

Next I looked at all the plugwork on the wiring loom, very impressive. Really high-quality boots, fittings, plugs everywhere... the main harness plugs to the ICM trigger sensor and coil are all mil spec looking stuff... I can't see the actual mil. spec symbol, so they're not at THAT level, but have really nice multi-lipped sealing... like real modern cars have.
Lastly, I will say I'm very impressed with the design, engineering and quality, and I'll just let the pictures tell the rest of the story from here. Took me just a few minutes to lay it out and plug bits together, very intuitive, which again to me shows how well designed something is. It comes with no written instructions. If these guys had better pictures online and some pics of it mounted, I think they would sell a lot more of them.
How does it work, no idea yet, but I'll let you know. Would I buy again, based on what I've seen so far, yes.

even the distributor blanking plugs is nicely made, O ringed, has built in tag to secure it so no need for the OE clamp to hold it down, nice.
Also looking at it from a machinists view, I like how the CNC operator has taken the extra time to programme in the extra passes to break all the sharp edges on the alloy parts, it's those extra little things that make a nice product.
it took me about a minute to lay this out and plug together, super easy.

Looks very nice quality, looking forward to hear how it works !A tip Steve---the 2 securing points for the "Sensor-mount"----use studs in the crankcase to mount this, or you will not be able to fit/remove it with the crank-pulley in place. The 126 engines tended to use long 6mm bolts (whereas the 500 uses studs) to secure the 'timing-chain' cover and they (the 2 required to hold the "sensor-mount") cannot be removed with the crank-pulley in place---seen the video, worn the'T'shirt!. You'll be waiting a while, still machining and building of the engine first it might be 12 months away. Don't hold your breath, you'll turn a smurf shade of blue.Looks very nice quality, looking forward to hear how it works !
