Technical 12 Valve?

Hi everyone,

This is a noob question, but im curious of what "12v" stands for in the MK1. For example 1.4 12v

Hi,

it's a 12 Valve Cylinder head on the engine,
common at the time - but now lots of engines are 16 Valve,

some lower specification ones are still 8 Valve of course

Here is a picture it as said it is the number of valves, 3 per cylinder, 2 inlet valves and 1 larger exhaust valve.

first time i seen the 12v head actually.. I never really thought about how they work before. I presume they have 2 inlet and 1 exhaust valve per cylinder?
