Oh yeah, the RAC recommend that you fix a snow plough, tape up your doors and replace your battery for a race battery...

Obviously its not the most practical solution! But I just thought it would be a decent talking point?
I wonder how much difference taping up all the main seams would make?

I am so tempted to give the seem taping up a try on the landy, it's got panel gaps that are like canyons and old school joints on the panels - rather than tape I was thinking about clear silicon, might be a project for the weekend.....

That's like putting a plaster on someones finger from a cut, while they continue to bleed out through their neck. :p

Quite like reading through the ecomodder website. They seem to go mental with what they do which means it's really interesting. You can take some of the ideas to slightly improve your own car, a splitter for example can increase downforce and at the same time increase MPG as it lets less air under the aerodynamically dirty underside of the car.

What happens when you need to open the bonnet/take a panel off.... ;)
Im doing some serious miles next month so Im gonna give taping up seams a go. See what difference it makes.

Bonnet is slightly different bit a rubber strip may help, as for panels - if I am taking a panel off then a seam of sealer isn't going to be a show stopper! I mean how often do you take the rear quarter panels off your car - or take the roof off your hatchback?

looking at his list of mods its safe to say his driving style will have had much to do with the 118mpg.

i seem to remember many years ago reading an article in which a citroen AX 1.5 diesel was able to average over 100mpg on an 800mile journey without any significant modifications just through the way it was driven

that might not be 100percent accurate but if someone whats to track it down it would make an interesting comparison for this thread

This Wikipedia link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citro%C3%ABn_AX mentions;

In 1989 a naturally aspirated diesel AX, using the 1360 cc all aluminium alloy TUD engine, managed a figure of 2.7 litres per 100 kilometres (100 mpg-imp; 87 mpg-US), totalling over 1,000 miles (1,609 km) from Dover to Barcelona. This was the longest ever distance travelled on 10 imp gal (45.5 L; 12.0 US gal) of fuel and earned it a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the most economical production car. Also available was a 4x4[5] variant, but with limited success when compared to the rival Fiat Panda 4x4. This was not sold in the UK.

on another note, clicking on one of the links brings up an electronic supercharger that actually works. Even better going by the photo it has been tried and tested on a mk2 Punto
