The flex part of my exhaust has started blowing badly and I'm hoping to get a new section welded in. Trouble is I can't find one that fits, has anyone done this before and could recommend the right fit?
hi, i have the same problem with the flexi section on my 2005 multijet diesel. i looked on ebay, and lots available.from£15-£25 even clamp on type ( of which i would prefer) saves a bit money on welding anyone know the size i would need :yum: i think it may be a 2 "pipe on my car. length of flexi looks to be approx 10 " or would it be easier to buy a complete section @ about £ 36 ? my exhaust has no middle box, just a pipe from the flexi to the back box. cheers, guys. steve.
Weld on type are harder as you still have to drop the full system to weld the top otherwise they leak.
Garages use them as they only have to carry a few diameters in stock.
No idea how the clamp on stand up. But unless you have a reciprocating saw its fairly long winded to cut through the exhaust which you have to do twice.
Not 100% sure but suspect you will have to drop the front to get a hacksaw in, as the exhaust fits in a tunnel.
hi, koalar. thanks for the quick reply. i will have a look tomorrow. may buy a replacement section as it looks like it bolts off. but if anyone can help with info, please do. cheers, steve.
You need to get the correct pipe diameter and length. Too big will leak badly but too tight will never fit.
The next issue is cutting the old flexible off the pipe. Angle grinder with slitting disc is the obvious choice but getting into the underfloor side will be "fun". You may need to remove the (cat/manifold back) exhaust from the car to do the job properly.
It will probably need a new bracket to the gearbox as was discussed recently for a 1200. Ive not yet looked in detail under my 100HP but suspect it will be similar to the 1200.
