General 1.9 d stange noise from starter motor/engine bay ?

When I start my van it makes a hell of a noise. I press on the accelerator it stops it sounds as though its a heat shield rattling very loudly, someone said it was the statEr motor stuck something about a dog stuck anyone have ANY CLUES... MARK
