1.8 Overheating???

My HLX's temperature gauge sits halfway between cold and midway where the red line is when driving motorway/country roads etc. But when stationary in traffic in cities, the gauge creeps up to almost horizontal by the red line. Only then when it rises above mid way can I hear the fan kick in. Is this normal for Bravos/HLXs? I notice too that the fan does not come on when I turn the engine off as other cars' fans do and it leaves itself to cool down naturally.

My HGT always goes to Horizontal which on my gauge is halfway. Fan kicks in as soon as it goes above halfway.
Also, anyone noticed how long the heat stays in the engine on the HGT's? Usually I can park mine up at night and 2 hours later the gauge has still only dropped to about the quarter mark. Great in the winter....

Not sure about the HGT mate, but my HLX is stone cold 1 1/2 hours later.

That sounds quite normal. The fan will only stay on after the engine it turned off if its very hot, ie. over half way.

The fan won't turn on AFTER you have turned the engine off.

Your car might actually be running cold. My 1.6 used to run 2 nothces down from halfway most of the time but then got lower and lower until last winter when it would not get much more than 1 or 2 from the bottom. New thermostat fixed that. Now sits 1 notch under when driving and 1 notch over when sitting.

Does the HLX have all that soundproofing under the bonnet. May be that's what keeps it snug?

I'd leave it alone, could cause more problems messing with it. Bravos are a bitch to bleed and an airlock could cause you big probs.

When it starts getting colder outside, if the needle starts sitting lower and lower when you are driving then get it looked at.
