Technical 1.8 ie revving at 3-3500 when idling

Hi all
This car was stolen and recovered (Unbeknown to me when I bought it). It worked fine for a week and has suddenly started revving 3-3500 when it should be idling at around 1000 rpm. This is an intermittant problem, and I cannot find anything info on tipo injection engines. Not sure where to start. Oiling/greasing the accelerator cable springs seemed to fix it for a couple of days then the problem reoccurred. Will try cleaning the injectors over the weekend to see if this helps. Might also change the fuel filter. Has this happened to anybody before??

There is an idle control valve on the 2.0 which can become oily and sticks. Might be worth taking it apart and cleaning it out with carb cleaner. The 1.8 is quite similar, not sure where it would be on your car.

hi ya there its yur idle speed sensor on top of engine i had it on my 1.6 it took me ages to find what it was jay

Spent nearly a hour looking through Eper. Can't find the idle control valve for the 1.8
