Could some Bravo/Bravo and Marea owners please provide me with your thoughts and experience about the reliability and differences between the 1.6 and 1.8 mark 2 Bravo Engines.

Many Thanks

dont no about the 1.6, but my 1.8 has been reliable in the 2 and a half yrs of ownership. had no problems with the engine at all, just things like new discs/pads, shock absorbers and Ive had 1 electrical prob not 2 mention a leaky sunroof (as most of us have experienced lol)

Likewise, I have no personal experience of the 1.6, but I have a Mk.2 1.8 ELX Marea Weekend and it's a cracking little engine. Fuel economy is reasonable. On average, I can get about 450 miles from £50. It's fast and nippy but you need to remember that it really kicks in at 4000rpm. I've had no problems with it (touch wood) and I've been very pleased with it.

I used to have an HGT Bravo, and whilst the 1.8 is somewhat shy of that, it's almost as much fun :)

I have heard that the 1.8 is the most reliable of the whole range, but I can't remember where I saw that. It was some motoring review site. If you scour these pages, you won't find many 1.8 owners with problems. Again, that's being presumptive, and maybe proportionatly, it fares no better or worse.

Either way, both engines are good :)
