General 1.6 Sporting

General 1.6 Sporting

I believe the 1.6 MPI was dropped because really it was ultimately an old-fashioned, heavy, 8V SOHC engine. It was the grunty, top-of-the-range motor for the posh Puntos... 90 ELX, Cabrio and Sporting. But the "big engine in a small car" idea was on its way out. It was really a Tipo / Tempra engine with decent breathing and multipoint injection (I think the last Tempra 1.6s had these improvements too...).

The 1.25 16V Fire that replaced it was a great little modern engine that dropped into the Bravas/Bravos as well, replacing the problematic 1.4 12V that was also a Tipo "improvement". The 1.2 even powered the Stilo (with a 6-speed box) until it was enlarged to 1.4 and continued until recently.

The 1.2 16V does a great job in my 2001 Brava Formula, smooth revving and good for 85mph motorway work (400 miles yesterday...)

Hmmm...

I've just had my bonnet up to check oil and bits. That airbox is a prime location for a supercharger. A lot less faffing about than a turbo conversion.

Coil packs and Mirrors sold from the Alfa 147. More than enough for a new driver side fog light and an Abarth (rally) bumper splitter. ;)

In 1995 when the Punto was "Car of the Year" it cost £26 to fill up from empty. Yesterday it was £53.24 for 7/8ths of a tank! :bang:

Fog light changed, three screws and a two minute job. A modern car that doesn't require a degree is subatomic Physics to change a bulb?

Oil and filters changed as today I have a bit of a run to make. North London via Essex to drop some Panda and Fiorino bits off and pick up some new Punto doors with added security measures (and hopefully a window that fully opens without sounding like a beached whale. :)

Keep 'em peeled if you're about. ;)

3/4 of a tank covered 250 miles.

Thirty five litres or seven Gallons-ish.

3/4 = 5.25 Gallons

250 / 5.25 = 47.62 mpg

Not driving economically. ;)

Oh I forgot to mention. The reason I have done 316 miles in the last day and a bit is delivering Panda and Fiorino bits to Aliks then collecting a de-locked tailgate and doors for my Punto.

That'll stop the worlds worst car thief doing a hatchet job of my doors. ;)

I've been hypermiling the last bit. 310 miles on 30l of petrol.

310th miles / 5.45 Gallons = 5.88mpg

That's average in my Panda and pretty good going in a Pre-arse. ;)

Not at the moment. I need to strip the doors ready for paint. The windows are illegally tinted so I'll either take them out and sell them retrofiting the original ones or strip the film off.
