Grrrrr!

The exhaust flexipipe has cracked. Chances are it's the factory one so I have no need to complain.

Still £27.50 I wasn't expecting to spend this month. I could have fixed it but it would probably cost the same in raw materials and time to replace as repair. Universal flexipipe and an hour or so welding plus fitting. This is less faff. At the cost of beer money I've saved beer time. ;)

I stripped the gash window tint off and...

...replaced the cut loom with a bit of string so I can wire the screen heaters back when I fit it.

I had the car up on ramps today as the exhaust is getting annoyingly blowy. I knew it was the flexipipe from the sound but...

...hoped it wasn't the flexi' part. This bit is impossible to weld and exhaust putty or bandage (even if I had any) would be a waste of time. Universal flexipipe is available (if it wasn't a bank holiday) but by the time I've taken the pipe off, cleaned it up, welded a new section in place and retrofitted it the bill would be a fraction less than a replacement part. That's now ordered and the pipe only has to last a couple of days (I guess).

While I was under there I noticed...

...the sump is about to start leaking and...

...the lower clutch trim is missing. :bang:

Whilst eBay shopping I bought a nice used strut brace. I don't want new bits as I prefer the modifications to look period.

After the exhaust, sump and clutch cover discoveries I needed cheering up so I've test fitted the diffuser.

The Alfa 147 undertray is much closer fit than I expected and...

...I have plenty of drop room. ;)

Not bad eh? :D

I hope this...

New pipe in place and I can start thinking properly about suspension (if the rattly back box lasts long enough). ;)

Dad is borrowing my Punto in the morning. :)
The designer primarily responsible for Lotus building the Carlton rather than the Senator, the suspension on the fwd Elan, Esprit S3, S4 and project crossbow will tell me what the car needs to handle even better than she does now. ;)

And the verdict is....

"The car's perfect for the road. Maybe a little bit stiffer for the track and the ride height could be amended a little but pretty good".

...high praise indeed. ;)

Adjusting the centre of gravity so the car is more stable in bends allowing you to go faster. ;)
Also the diffuser looks silly six inches in the air.

The road trip has been postponed due the seller being called out to Luxembourg so the plan for today was to chop and fit my Stainless Steel back box to my Punto.

I noticed the original was rattly as heck when I fitted the new flexipipe and it needed replacing. I'm out of money so welding the Powerflow box from my shed instead. I paid a fiver for it and originally fitted it to Guff II.

The idea was to tack weld it in place with a ninety degree bend trimmed to fit, take the exhaust off and bench weld it before fitting it all back but there was so much room around the pipe it didn't have to come off at all. :)

Also I'd like to thank ARK Graphics...

...hopefully if there's a £999 Challenge this year I'll get some made up for that event as well. ;)

Has anyone ever converted a 1.6 Sporting to run with a distributor and carb's? I'm thinking of a high lift cam' and bigger injectors but that's a fiddle fart of a job and may require a remapable ecu.
Cam', dizzy and carb's would be far simpler and more efficient. ;)
