1.4 Fuel Consumption !!!

Ok guys, my Bravo... 1.4 98 is taking the **** out of me and my purse!
I put a tenners juice in and she'll give me about 90 - 100 miles. Then the next time i fill her up she'll only give me 50 miles to a tenner!!! This has been going on for a few weeks now. My journeys are no different in the two weeks, i do do a lot of short distances and ive learnt not to thrash the car, so why is the consumption so erratic? Would an Ecotek valve solve this problem and are they easy to fit?

Theres been a sh*tload of arguments for the ecotek valve for and against but it has seemed to work well for the 1.4 owners. maybe this is because the consumption is so bad that it can only get better. worth a try though i would say.

Hi, Yes the 1.4's love drinking juice, i have a 1.4SX 1997
a beautiful car to look at and to drive, but she drinks more than my girlfriend. I have fitted a ecotek CB26P valve and they do make a differance, more responsive and better fuel consumption, although to be honest they will never be as fuel efficent as a Micra!!!!!!!!!! I also have a pipercross induction kit and this with the valve make it a better car to drive. The valve is dead easy to fit, about 20mins hope this helps you

Re: Re: 1.4 Fuel Consumption !!!

I have a 98 1.4sx and it also is a deamon on juice, i fitted an ecotech and saw a slight improvement, but something had to improve, I now get about 360ish miles to a full tank, compared to 300-320 before the valve. I'm afraid to fit an induction kit or k&n filter as it might make the car heavier on juice again. Does anyone know if these items would cause the car to be harder on juice or not?

Alison,
just to be on the safe side, after leaving your car parked stationary for a while, get on you hands and knees and stick your head under the back of your car near the petrol filler point - see if you can smell petrol. if not, try changing up to third gear on the motorway, instead of leaving it in second. harrrrrr! only joking.
Seriously though, check for fuel leaks (not with a match i might add!). I bought a bmw when i had a cold once, i only got 8 mpg out if it. my mate (whom dodn't have a cold) told me my car smelt of petrol - upon closer inspection i found a puddle under the fuel tank. it was much better after that, i then got 14 mpg!
Regards

Would the fitting of one of these have any impact on insurance cover?

Re: Re: 1.4 Fuel Consumption !!!

i have a 96 bravo 1.4sx and was wondering what and ectotek cb26p value is or what it does. Is it expensive or difficult to fit?

Re: Re: 1.4 Fuel Consumption !!!

Well it's not really a performance part, but then it's not something thats fitted by fiat.
You could call your insurance co, but i really don't think it would worth it.
