General 1.4 16v Vs T-Jet

Had my 1.4 16v 2 years now, bit sluggish and like others said u have to rag it for it too move and it nails petrol but the 6 speed is nice, collecting my tjet next week engine is much smoother and a lot quieter on the tjet. 16v n/a can sound a little ruff at times. and i dont think theres many other turbo petrol cars that are that group to insure and that price to buy (do not mention corsa sheads) :yuck:

Whilst I agree with most of what talltom said above I must saw I fine the t-jet to be just about the most flexible engine I have ever driven. Whilst it isn't really on boost untill 1500rpm it will pull from 800rpm without complaint. I even leave it in 4th over speed bumps at less than 20mph and it pulls fine.

20k a year. Prob best with mjet or if not too fussed about fuel go with tjet. Both more tuneable than the 16v

Personally I love my tjet and would recommend :slayer:

T-jet doesnt really suffer much from turbo lag, unless your in the wrong gear for your speed. As has been said it will pull quite well in most gears, even at low revs.

I get 37.5 mpg consistantly with mine, which is a mixture of fast A roads and country lanes and im not shy with my right foot which is excellent economy for my driving style.

Even at 20k a year (i do 15k) i would only consider an M-jet if you do a lot of motorway miles as without a 6th gear the T-jet is thirsty on the motorway but a petrol engine will always be more enjoyable to drive on any other road.

I have an mjet. I do roughly 25-30k a year. Mapped it is far better in terms of speed than any other model available including abarths.

But obviously it is boring to drive, any one who says a diesel is fun to drive is in denial. They are great for overtaking and easy/quick power bursts to annoy various other drivers but other than that, diesels are such a boring car.

Nothing beats knocking a petrol off limiter.

Even with the 6th Gear in the GPA is at 3k revs at 70-75mph.

Max torque is 1750rpm in the 120 bhp T-Jets so low gears are pretty good when the turbo gets going.

The wrong gear for speed is def inherent on roundabouts, and unfortunatley there is a time when 2nd is fine with slow acceleration but if you try to accelerate quickly there is a large lag before it goes anywhere! But this is down to changing your driving style to fix it as well, as NA vs turbo are very different to drive, wet corners + boost can be interesting as well!

Try it down some normal roads, slow in the T-Jet below 1300rpm in 2nd and then slam foot down, it has the opportunity to catch you out if not careful!

my turbo kicks in at 3000rpm, i doubt very much it would pull fine in 4th doing 20
