I must be crazy to spend what I just did on a cable!
anyway like in many threads throughout the years on the subject of EGR's, I wanted to get rid of mine, I have not had any problems with it even though the car now has 110,000 miles clocked up!
I unplugged it one time, and ran the car, it made a huge differnece to how it run, it boosted quicker, there was less smoke out the back, it pulled really well and smoothly, I dont think it made any difference to mpg. But doing it this way throws the DTC light on dash and all manner of fault codes.
I was considering having a remap, but overall I didnt want any more power, because mainly more power does equal more fuel, sure for the same price as a remap I could have just had the EGR system mapped out, it wasnt a route I was going to take, although....
So I bought a cheap MPPS set up, with the idea that I could read the stock map off the car, have the egr mapped out, and re flash it back to the car at a fraction of the price of a remap, only problem was it wouldnt read the map, the disk that came with it had stock and modded maps on it, but I dodnt want to take the chance that their "stock" map was the same as my stock map, so I just put it in my box of various other OBD2 cables and readers.
I did buy a egr blanking plate, with my own small hole in it, but reaching the egr bolts was almost impossible [wasnt worth the struggle tbh] so I gave up on that as well.
So I chanced upon an EGR Emulator from polish firm Tafmet

its basically a cable with electronics that fit into the existing wiring loom using plugs, which fool the ecu into thinking there is an egr fitted and working, it arrived within a couple of days and its been on the car now for a few days, I get the smooth and stronger running of the car with the egr unplugged, a lot less smoke out the rear, it was £89 delivered, which is a lot for a cable but it seems that there is only this company making them and not something that china are doing [if they did, it would cost peanuts!].
of course, completely undo-able within 2 mins, with the chance to sell it on if required should it not be needed.
so there you go, an EGR topic that [I dont think] has been covered before on here, yes there is a guy who makes his own similar mod, but reading his topic a few have tried that and still had the engine light, doing it the way I did requires no cutting or soldering of wires or making up circuits, its completely plug and play.
have had the car on MES today just to check for DTC's, none stored. 200 miles on the cable done, so that will do me just fine.
