idont bother with lifting gear,
all you need is a few rag puddings night before, and help from one of your mates who aint scared of getting oily hands, and hand ball the thing in,
.....oops. health and safety will be out,
you must use..safety boots, tin hat engine lift, etc these days,![]()
we used to spend a full day fitting pinto engine's.
finding a good one in scrapyard was hard, (gamble's)
all hand balled in,no tin hats
had same fun with K-series engines last year, number 3 was a winner,![]()
spent all morning getting a viva hc engine out of a car and it was sat on a car too in the yard
it was for fitting in a chevette
fitted it in the chevette and it was worse than the one i took out
still hate the guy who sold me it

aye..viva's and shuvitts nightmares wernt they, especially the carbs, (strongburgs pfft..junk,) & a free hernia with every clutch change,
they is all scrapped now so no worries, fiats is all light weights so all is good from now on,![]()
OH have so been there , viva HC on ramps outside house middle of winter noisey gearbox out, "mint" secondhand one fitted, so mint it jumped out of reverse all the time. I just love laying on my back in the snow under Viva's NOT
Thanks for all the advice - all out or just the engine was one of the things I've been pondering! Luckily, we'll have a workshop and hoist so I'm sure that will help matters!
Will definitely be doing timing belt and water pump before fitting the replacement engine, the clutch is pretty new so that will transfer over.
Is their wisdom to replacing the radiator after a history of head gasket fails on the car? Its done 127,000 miles so perhaps would benefit from it?
I'm off for a nice cup of tea and a slice of cake with Aunt Sally and the Crowman!
