Hi everyone,

Been lurking on this forum now ever since I got a Stilo, partly because every week something goes wrong with it haha, but I love it. Clutch went last week, and ever since it came back I have noticed this strange sound which seems to be coming from the right hand side of the engine under the screen wash.

Its like a clicking / tapping sound, when I press my clutch up and down, it changes intensity, just resting my foot on the clutch seems to stop the noise entirely, releasing it fully makes it fully audible, around biting point it goes quieter, and fully pressing the clutch again makes it disappear.

I thought it would go away eventually but its playing on my mind now! The noises are the same in neutral, or in gear.

Anyone have any ideas?

Also, for your amusement, here is the list of other problems with the car:
Lost my fuel filler cap (This happened this morning on the way to work!)
ECU light (engine fault light)
Airbag Failure
Stop lamp failure (this comes on and off)
Had a new clutch main cylinder
Had a new clutch
Had a new gear selector fork
Had a new exhaust...

Oh and all the air intake box is held together with gaffa tape! :slayer:

Thanks in advance, Phil

I have a feeling that the screen wash bottle is on different side of the car on different Stilos so do you mean the noise is coming from the clutch side?

If so then it sounds as if your clutch bearing is chattering when in the rest position. This happens quite a lot with new clutch assemblies and will probably disappear when the clutch beds in

Hi,

Thanks for the reply! Sounds reasonable but its getting louder now... oh and just add blocked washer jets to the list of problems haha.

I will keep this updated.

Ta, Phil

Thanks, turned out it was a blocked washer jet/tubes! Looked like gunk coming out, ended up draining the washer fluid and using vinegar, it stunk but at least it got the stuff out. (I read this on another site; hopefully hasn't damaged anything. Ive flushed it out with water since.)

Took its for its MOT today and I have a list of repairs as long as my arm, emissions, but then front constant velocity joint gaiters, offside front suspension in lower ball joint, front suspension arm rubber bushes. And a million advisories.

I actually really like the car; and for some reason I blame myself for its mishaps rather than the manufacturers!

Shouldn't blame your self, but equally can't the manufacture. That's all wear and tear and previous owner dependant.
