Technical 07 Auto Transmission Problems... Please Help!!

Hello everyone,

i am completely new on here and no naff all about cars so i am after some advice. I bought a automatic fiat punto 07 reg last year and it has been great. Recently though, usually when starting the car, it will not go into gear. It just stays in neutral and beeps constantly saying 'Gear Unavailable' 'Check Transmission'. Turning it on and off numerous times helps but obviously this is not healthy to keep doing.

Any ideas??

If its an 07 plate I assume you have a grande punto?

Try posting it in the grande forums you might get more replies

i frankly have no idea but as its a fiat its quite likely an earthing issue
i had a similar problem with the previous model and only removing the rear lights and cleaning up the brake light bulb pips caused a cure
reason being you cover the brake as you move transmission and this was causing the gearbox failure

you couldnt make it up

No, i am sure i don't have a Grande punto?

Pips?

I guess the sticky out bits on the base of the brake light bulb -- the contacts, as it were.

The battery sits on it

Look underneath at front and you will see a large connector going into a black box

ok and what do i need to check with this? Or do you mean it will need replacing?
