Hello,

New to this forum so please be kind.
A friend of mine has a 2007 Fiat Croma auto. He does not have a lot of money so that car is currently on stop as it has recently gone into limp mode.
He has used a cheap OBD scanner to find these codes.
P0700 ( which I think is just a generic code for " there is a problem " in the ECU and hence the limp mode.

The other code that has been thrown is P1982.

I can find no reference to this number. I have a feeling it is auto box related.
A sensor or valve maybe ?

Can anyone please help identify it so that he can at least know where he should start.
We would both be really grateful for any help or advice.

Thank you.

P0xxx are generic codes, where as P1xxx are manufacturer specific. P0700 refers to an issue with the gearbox control system, and I suspect P1982 is a more specific diagnosis. Generic code readers can only read generic codes, in order to fully understand the issue you (or your friend) really ought to use MultiECUScan (with appropriate cables). There are a few members on here who have copies and may be willing to assist, whereabouts in the country are you?

Hi Eklipse,

Thank you for the reply. Much appreciated.(It was a genuine request for a friend , I'm not asking for myself :) )
My friend is located in Glanamman near Ammanford, South Wales.
If there was someone close by , I'm am sure he would be really pleased to hear from someone who would be prepared to run a proper scan.

Many thanks

Mmmmm, not really.. But cables are only few quid, might need some of the coloured adpators too but the free version of MES is all that should be needed for your friend to do themselves.

MES can be found here: http://www.multiecuscan.net/
If you look at the supported vehicles page and find the car in question in the list it'll tell you what cable you need and any adaptors required for different modules if required. I cant tell you exactly without knowing what exact model and engine etc but its not complicated to understand.
Then just get required cables off ebay, its gonna be a ELM327 or Vagcom cable basically, and i'd hazard a guess to connect to gearbox it'll need one of the adaptors which are just colour coded so also easy to get right one(s).

If they can get it to the Forest of Dean then I'm happy to read and clear the codes with mine but really i advise just getting MES and then they have it.
