Hey people.
I have just bought an elm 327 v1.5a and downloaded fiatecuscan.
So far I cant do a thing with it, it won't connect and just keeps timing out, have tried all the speeds and nothing.
Any suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong?
I'm new to fiat and not familiar with this diagnostic hardware.

Have you read the manual for the software? That would be a good place to start as it tells you how to set up the connector so it can communicate with the ecu.

Do you mean FiatECUScan or MultiECUScan. (FES is very old and was replaced by MES).

Have you checked the Supported Vehicles List for MES

This not only tells you the models supported but more importantly what cables/connections are required for each of a cars units.

You don't mention your vehicle you are trying to connect to.

Lastly if you did not get your ELM device from a recommended supplier and are use a cheap EBay / Chinese / etc unit then you need to read/search this forum thread

This is all about mainly cheap devices that fail to connect (or other connection issues). Note it is over 200 pages long!

I tried 2 cheapo bluetooth ELM327 from eBay, first one didn't work, second one worked for some of the time. Both had cases which were glued together (not screwed) and both circuit boards were different to the hackable ones mentioned on the MES forum (had to prise the cases apart). Sent them back and got refunds.

Hi,
is it USB / cable or bluetooth

where are you based..? ,
as we could probably give you a demo of the working kit.., and try to figure out if your ELM device is faulty.
