just under where the tax disc goes is an intermittent rattle and the bottom of the door rattles intermittently. its really weird as it don't happen all the time! anyone else experienced these annoyances?

Wish a rattle was all I had to worry about. My dash and small speaker and curtesy light all rattle a bit intermittently but now I'm distracted by the ever present range of warning lights , airbags, engine fault ( stalling ) and occasionally loose connection and the dials go dead ( speedo today !). I've got to expect problems everyday, had a Nissan Sunny for years and it was 100% reliable !

There's a stiff plastic trim over the demister vents on top of the dashboard that seems to break loose on the ends. I had to stick mine down when I bought it. Other than that I can only think of the A frame door pillar cover. Find a rough old road (shouldn't have to go far in the UK) and get a passenger to push on things when you're driving along.

I have an intermittent bottom of door rattle too. I'll keep you posted when I find out what it is

I have a speedometer glass plastic squeak I'm working on at the moment!

Ricardo
Almost everyone (but me) seem to have the airbag warning going off now and again. I have it on every other car here -Clio and Bravo- so it's a sign of the times

Have you had your fault codes checked yet to find out what the recorded engine fault is? Whereabouts do you live? Someone nearby may be able to read off the codes for you and point you in the right direction, more garages are equipped to read fault codes now. (make sure they don't erase them if you're still investigating)

There's probably not much going wrong if it's just stalling on tickover, and the clues might be in the fault codes

Hi Deckchair

The speedos working today and I've only had the one warning light today. went 7 miles to work and back and didnt stall

Had the airbag fixed a month ago, thought the warranrt would cover this but it cost me £ 70 ,

I live in walsall and go to nearest dealer. Can anyone recommend a local independent who is good with Fiats / stilos ?

I am booked in with a local garage to have a diagnostic check, i wanted him to clean idle control valve but he says they can only be replaced. Am i about to be fleeced ?

What warning light did you get, you didn't say?

I'm a long way from Walsall but if you're passing......
Ha! But there might be someone on the forum who knows someone nearer to you who can check fault codes

IDLE VALVE
What do they mean you can't clean it? You can clean anything can't you?
It looks really easy to do on mine, just the same as the Bravo, just undo the securing clip, pull the inlet tube back, then spray in some cleaner and carefully clean off the gunge if there is any with a cloth.

If it's stopped its stalling then leave it alone, if it ain't broke.....:)

What mileage is yours? Obviously gunge only builds up with time. After 100k miles my Bravo idle valve was seriously gunged up

Hi Deckchair

Thanks for advice

Mines only done 30 thousand miles

The engine fault lights on all time. Just spoken to relative whos a peugeot technician, he thinks as the lights on i need to get it sorted asap. it looks like peugeot are as problematic as fiats.

Still stalling by the way Friday and saturday , stalls when engine gets to normal operating temp on cold days

Where exactly is the idle valve and what does it look like?

Serious hijack of thread here Ricardo :)
The idle valve is at the end of your air intake tube. Just follow the air inlet duct in. 30k is a bit early to be worried about clagged up idle valves so that could be a red halibut

Your relative is right, don't ignore an engine fault light, find out what's logged on your fault codes and you're away. It could be so many things that it's a guessing game otherwise

Can engine lights really be believed?

When I was in the states (on holiday) I had a Dodge Intrepid (or whatever- didnt pay attention as dull as) and the warning light came on on that. Before taking it back I read the manual and it said if you have just fuelled the car, the light may come on for 5 minutes, this is to be ignored. If goes off then on over the course of the next hour- this is to be ignored- and on it went!

Basically the pressure in the tank caused the engine management light to come on when!

With the stilo, never had one, touch wood. Airbag warning not gone off for a while though!

apologies black JTD and thanks to Deckchair

only one warning light today , fog lamp bulb

Took it for diagnostic check, he says he cleaned idle control valve and reset it , so no fault light at present

he commented that it should have had an ecu update and pressure sensor modification. if these have been done and problem comes back its a new throttle body !

Hi Deckchair

he didnt give much information

But at least its got no warning lights on at moment and is idling ok and hasnt stalled
will probably end up back at dealers when they can fit me in ! unless anyone wants to buy it

Update is for pressure sensor AND throttle body.

Hey T14086
You'll know what this intermittent rattle is inside the door that's plaguing BlackJTD and myself

It sounds like a cable or strap rattling around inside the door on rough roads.
I can only guess at the door window regulator cables

Sorry never noticed your question:eek:

Rattle from door,I take it nothing on outside is loose? Has the door panel ever been off? have all the 10mm bolts been put back on the metal panel, regulator bolts tight? Definately nothing rattling round boot of door behing the metal panel ?

Ok thanks, will take a look.

The speedo etc perspex gauge panel is plaguing me with very loud rattles/ squeaks and seems to move front and back 15mm at least. I've taken it out twice now and fixed sticky pads but as soon as we hit some bumps, rattle rattle, squeak. Is it just the front moon shaped visor held in with two screws that holds the whole lot gauge perspex panel in place?
