Hey Guys,

Had some lacquer peel off my bonnet the day before yesterday.

Basically - I helped my little girl decorate the car for Halloween, never seen it been done before and the little one was bored after doing up the house with props etc.

So then, i was like - yea sure love, lets go get some stickers and we can do the front of it.

Never had an issue with stickers before - providing they where cheap clear backed ones... and these where cheap and had a clear back on them.

Well - thats just about it.
Car looked whicked - turned lots of heads, even a few other parents at the school had liked it and followed on with the idea by doing their car lol... was really funny.

Anyhow, i took the stickers off the other day and with one of them - i should of really used an hair dryer - however, like a fool i tugged on the sticker and its pulled off some lacquer.

I have thought about getting the bonnet resprayed as its peppered with stone chips but... i dont think i can justify the price for that one panel, i was quoted £300 for the bonnet job (prep work, full respray to look brand new).
BUT they want it off the car so it can be done on a frame :(

I have seen far more body shops do this with the bonnet on the car and the car is returned within 2 or 3 days (after curing, compound cutting and all that jazz).

So, im left with one option - hide it.

HELP - i want to buy some abarth stripes to go up and over the bonnet, then some to go down the side of the car, i think they will look good but i need them in White as my Stilo is metallic blue.

Can anyone help me here or recommend a decent vinyl designer that isnt too expensive.

thanks in advance guys!
P.S - no flaming for the halloween decor'ed car - it looked quite cool.

There ya go

I mean a donor bonnet from someone who is breaking down a car with the same colour as yours.

Plastidip will fill nearly everything, but you could pre fill them with a product like Upol Dolphin Glaze.

Since you were foolish enough to remove the stickers (they did look quite groovy.. :D ) then the only alternative is to re-spray the bonnet.

You might be able to get a slightly cheaper job if you prep' the bonnet yourself. Fill in the chips and then sand the whole thing "flat" using as fine a sandpaper as you have. The bodyshop will finish it off. I wouldn't spray on any primer though - the bodyshop may want to use their own/compatible type.

I doubt the stickers did the damage.. normally lacquer doesn't get pulled off by removing stickers... so it was probably weak/on the way out already, if that's any consolation. Still must be annoying though..

Dunno if this is double posting... on the mobile im showing double quotes...

Anyhow.

Your correct ralf.

Think its time (well nearer pay day) that i flatten the bonnet and get it to mortimers in batley / clekhuddersfax lol... and have it done as one...

I would say its due the job but if i prepped then it might help and save a few bob...

My prep would have to be done on the day or the night before with a slight going over the next morning and at drop off...

Lol! I was thinking about making a bonnett from lexan (perspex) but it would have to be heat proof it and i bet its going to cost more than a full repsray...

always fancied the idea after seeing Hector in fast and furious showing his motor off.... would be a real head turner but in a ricey fashion.
