Technical After market Cruise control

This is a long shot, but have you thought about going through the fault diagnosis for the brake lights not working, it gives you the methods to check whether the brake switch is working correctly.

got my second hand cruise control from classifieds here it arrived yesterday fitted it today works perfectly just got to cut the lower cowl then refit mine was an alfa one and i had the brown connector by the battery i used an old sony disc changer cable works great looks original. brilliant guide thanks rich.(y)

my cars a 1.9jtd multiwagon 54 plate.

You don't think its possible the ECU was never programmed with cruise control, do you?

i fookin hope not!!! ive mutilated the cowl already and spent £50 on a stalk :(

Just noticed your car is an 02. Is it a 1.6 or JTD engine by any chance?

There was a software update for the Stilo 1.6 16v IAW 5NF ECU in 01/2002 to address "Difficult cold start and cruise control management."

And for the Stilo JTD(80 and 115cv) - Bosch EDC15 CF3 ECU in 02/2003 to address "Erratic operation with cruise ****rol"

If your car is one of these and hasn't had this update, it may be the reason you're having problems.

nopes its a 1.8 02 dynamic.....any other ideas? all sorta pinning on this clutch switch....

Ahhh wel, just a thought. Just checked the software update list again but there's noting for the 1.8 engine relating to cruise control.

I can't think of anything else. You would seen to have covered everything in this thread.

I have a 53 plate 1.9 JTD dynamic MW I think I have the brown connector when I last looked some time ago, I do not know if it is wired to the steering column. I have a Fiat CC switch ready to fit and I would like to do this mod Just read about the 54 plate JTD MW where this was fitted and working no problem. This is making me think about doing this again. I,m just afraid of Fiat electrics and CAN system as everything works and I want it to stay that way, but I would like to do this.

Hi guys

I was wondering did someone managed to get it to work by connecting the cables directly from the engine node M10A. I own a 1.2 stilo ..and it doesn;t have the white connector at the steering nor the brown one at the battery ...so I wanted to try and wire it up at the engine node...

So is that possible? someone done it by now ? because to tell you the truth I'm afraid of messing with the engine node.
Is it possible that my car is not meant in anyway to have a cruise control ?
I mean could it miss the mechanism of cruise control ...or if I connect the wires from the engine ...it might work ? what do you guys think ?

thanks

Hi all.

I have 02 jtd 115 Dynamic and yesterday i get cruise control to work. After connecting stalk with brown connector I checked ECU errors with fiat ecu scan software and it shows me P0703 error and there i start to look for reason. The problem on my car was that I have to connect not only stalk with brown conector but also brake pedal position switch with black conector due to missing circuit. I find some more info from PL manual and following it(I made tests from that manual and check Ω between fuse F35 and pin 54 in ECU connector. There was no connection).From BPP switch I connect white-green cable with white-green cable in black D4 connector Pin A02 (but be careful in some models there was a instalation change and it may be in A08 or it may not be at all)

Maybe that will help to anyone

I had the same problem as described here. Wired up everything as described here but my cruise control did not work. (1.9 JTD 8v built in 2002).
When I opened the black D4A connector which is beside the brown connector with the 4 cruise control pins, I found out that the pin A02 is not wired. This should be +12V when the brake pedal is not pressed. So I just pushed a wire into the connector and put it permanently on 12 V just to try out if it solves my problem. And it worked. In my case it does not mattter if there comes a permanent +12 V Signal on the brake signal. As soon as I press the brake pedal the cruise control goes off again.

THANKS!
I had exactly the same problem with my "semi-wired" stilo. The change described above did fix the problem. Cruise control works awesome now.

Some more info:
When my ECU detected the cruise control presence it began to record the following error:
P0703 - Brake signal
This error was not showing before. It appeared after I installed the cruise control stalk.
The switch on the brake pedal has two contacts:
- contact 1 (normally open, connected to ground) - this one is connected properly on all vehicles.
- contact 2 (normally closed, connected to +12) - this one was not connected on my Stilo - you can find the wire at A02 of the D4A connector.

OK, so in the D4 connector, pin A02 should (if it has this problem) have no wire going to it, this is understandable, but! i cut all 4 wires b4 the connector and soldered the wire together, i didn't put pins in the block, IE (form post 18)D4B (Brown Connector) ------> H7 (Cruise Control Stalk)
Pin A02 ------> Pin 1 (Green) RESUME
Pin A03 ------> Pin 6 (Orange/White) SPEED -VE
Pin A04 ------> Pin 5 (Orange/Black) SPEED +VE
Pin A05 ------> Pin 4 (Violet) ON/OFF

H7 Connector

i cut the cables going to A02, A03, A04, A05...and spliced them to the cruise control stalk cables....could the aforementioned problem contribute to my situation??

I did exactly the same thing.

There are TWO D4 connectors there - D4A and D4B. They look exactly the same, but the D4B connector has only a few wires going through, while the other is almost fully populated.
The 4 cruise control wires go to D4B. The brake node switch wires are connected on the other connector - D4A. So, find A02 on D4A and see if it has wiring.

you will need a locking switch for the On/Off.

but you will need ot wire more than that. the ABSULUTLEY necesarry wires to connect at the "on/off" to turn it on and off, and also the "speed +ve" because you will need ot hold that to memorise the speed. like above you need a lockign for on/off, but u need a momentary for speed +ve

any other q's feel free

Thanks for the help guys!

Right... another problem. After reading about the brake switch issues some of you had, I had a look at the D4A Connector. Theres a green/white wire entering the connector at A02, but nothing exiting. Had a feel behind the brake pedal switch and I'm pretty sure I can feel all 4 wires leaving the switch, so one of them mustn't be connected somewhere along the way. Has anyone figured out which wire from the switch is supposed to go to A02 of D4A?

there is no need to run a wire form brake switch, thats extra un-needed effort, it works perfectly safely without it. just connect it permemnantly to +12v...the cruise will disengage when you press the brake switch as a brake depressed signal is being sent...ive been running mine like this since day 1 and never had and brown trouser moments or any problems. works flawlessly all the time....
