First of apologies if this info is out there but I need clarification and my technical understanding is not at the expert level. I have scoured the forum but couldn't quite find the precise info

I have a 53 plate Stilo Estate and my key fob is not working. What I have managed to establish so far is:

  • New battery check!
  • Signal from door lock and unlock is working but boot unlock is broken and is messing everything up.
  • The hatch/door release on bar won't physically work. A key is needed to open all doors including the boot.
  • Boot stopped opening at the same time as the key failed.
  • The key is a three button affair in blue.
  • When plugged into the ECU (I think that's what the technical said) he could operate the boot mechanism with the press of a button.

A new key from fiat is coming in at £350  so I am desperate to find a fix as its driving my wife crazy and she'll stab me with the key pretty soon.

My question is therefore, can I buy a secondhand working key on ebay for £15 (I checked) and replace the circuit board (pcb?) and have it reprogrammed? The transponder in my key is separate to the PCB (I think that's what its called).

Many thanks for any advice. I am truly lost!!

:yeahthat:
And if use fiat dealer or registerd multiscan software you will have to get the 5 digit electronic code number only available over the counter from fiat roughly £45..as you need this code to access security features and set up remotes.
I and others have used multiscan software to setup spare remote fob available from well known auction site for £10 to £15.
so even if you get dealer to set up the remote you will have to add the electronic code required to the price

Yes the red light works on all the buttons its just not working.

I am told its the boot release button thats the problem.

So what you guys are saying is that I can get the code from Fiat for £45ish

Then buy a second hand key with a working PCB and then program that key to work with my car?

Stuart

Thanks guys!

If the red light on your original fob works then there's probably nothing wrong with it so before you buy another fob try using MultiECUScan to link your original fob to the car first. If that fails then buy another one.

Hi I have the same problem with my key fob for the 03reg stilo estate. I change the battery so red light is working but no sign of locking the door. Can you explain how to link the original fob using mulitscan? I assume you need some sort of hardware to connect with the key, the explanation on the software website are not very clear in that sense.
If hardware is required i guess won't be that cheap (i.e. less than £45 to get the code from fiat and have it linked)

once you have connected your laptop to car using modified elm327 interface or elm327 with adapter cable with use of registerd version of multiscan when using the function to learn remotes software will ask you to enter the 5 digit electronic code and then press and hold unlock button on fkey fob and it will read and learn the transmitted code from the fob , then do same for any remaining key fobs, so you are able to learn the key fob you already have or another key fob for your stilo you may have got second hand .
I only had one key when I got my stilo and got second hand remote and blade cut for it in case run into any difficulties in future also my car accepts the emergency start procedure using electronic code and entering by pressing pedals if the imobiliser suddenly dislikes my transponder key so able to get out of trouble fingers crossed if needs be

this? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251273127017?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

with use of registerd version of multiscan when using the function to learn remotes software

with registered version means that the free version is not enough?

will ask you to enter the 5 digit electronic code and then press and hold unlock button on fkey fob

where I can find this code? It is a second hand car I haven't been given any code....

get security code from fiat dealer for your car £20

download fiatecu software from yani's site

plug laptop into car

reprogramme key to your car.

happened to mine for no apparent reason car just stopped talking to the key.

mine is now fixed.

i have also installed an extra switch connected to my boot lock which i can operate inside the car. as the boot handle switch dies a long time ago and i was relying on the keyfob till that stopped working.
