General Check Glow Plugs Warning on Dash ..

Well I've eventually got around to using Argonought's guide to sort the glow plug warning.

Tested all 4 a few times to make sure and cylinder 4 glow plug is dead.

Got a 2.6 ohm reading on all but the pin 1(Yellow).

So just ordered a new Bosch glow plug(£14 delivered).

Also ordered a new Draper multimeter(£15 delivered) because after testing I some how managed to reverse our multiwagon over my multimeter.

Edit.
Argonought Thanks, great guide ..

I did consider replacing all 4 plugs but due to the risk of one breaking off and getting stuck in the block I decided to reduce that risk by only replacing the one that was faulty.

If another fails in the next few weeks I will replace them all next time.

yeah i know where your coming from, i had the same worry, i just tightened them very slightly then they came out easily.
do you have the correct plug tool with wobbly end?, i got a draper set from amazon and they worked a treat. i dont think the job would be possible without the correct tool - well you would run a much higher risk of damage if you didnt use them.

5. Now use this simple table to work out which cylinder has a faulty glow-plug
  • Pin 1 (YELLOW) = Cylinder 4
  • Pin 2 (BLACK) = Cylinder 3
  • Pin 3 (GREEN} = Cylinder 2
  • Pin 4 (RED) = Cylinder 1
Note: cylinder 1 is always furthest from the flywheel or if you prefer is next to the cam belt cover

I changed the wrong glow plug because Red(pin 4 - cylinder 1) was next to the flywheel on my car.

Is anyone else's like mine?
