I fitted the blanking plate a while ago just to see what, if any, difference it made. Apart from slightly less smoke on hard acceleration, the only difference was that it logged the P0401 fault code. No warning message or EML on, just the code was there when read with FES. Cleared the code and drove the car about 5 miles, no warnings but the code was back.

I cleared the code again and refitted the swirl plate and never had the code again.

Mine's a standard JTD 115 8v with two cats and no Lambda sensor so I've no idea how the ECU knew to throw up the P0401 code when the blanking plate was fitted.

I doubt it had anything to do with blanking off the EGR, probabely a loose or corroded connection somewhere that fixed itself when you were messing with the EGR. As you say, there's no way for the ECU to know the EGR is blanked off so it couldn't throw up a fault code.

thanks davren mines the multijet 120 bhp 8v il try swirl gasket and see how it goes previous stilos i had were jtd 115bhp 8v but egr valve and pipework is exactly the same and i do get the engine managment light come on

I've no idea how it knows, but I didn't touch the wiring when changing the blanking for swirl plate. Just removed two allen bolts and loosened the other two and slid the plate in.

120 engines without a DPF have a Lambda sensor. Maybe that senses a lack of exhaust gas somehow to trigger the P0401 fault.

The Multijet is a slightly different beasty but it still doesn't actually monitor EGR flow(P0401-Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Insufficient Detected), if it did fitting the "restrictor plate" would also cause the engine managment light come on. I'd say your fault lies with the EGR, wiring or connectors. Remove the EGR and give it and its connectors a good clean, make sure it opens and closes easily, you may acheive the same result as Davren.

any 1 know part number for egr valve 120 multi jet as seen 1 on ebay for vauxhall ,part numb is 55215032 is that the same as my multijet ??

ePER shows the part number for the 120bhp EGR valve as 55204235. It's the same part number for the 115bhp one.

There's a post on here somewhere that says the Vauxhall one (55215032) is the same as the Fiat one apart from the connector facing a different way. I think the post said it was not possible to change the direction of the connector but it was still possible to fit it to a Stilo.

Search for "55215032" In Stilo section, you should be able to find the post to confirm it.

EDIT: Found it. Post #134 here: https://www.fiatforum.com/stilo/260776-egr-valve-9.html?p=2728175
