General egr valve

General egr valve

I do apologise if i am wrong but this is what we used to do on the toyota hilux surfs that also have the egr.I haven't read alot of this thread so i may of got the wrong idea of this thread.
They tend to pack up so we either took off them off completely and used blanking plates on the ends of the manifolds,or just cable tied one of the rubber pipes we took off and bent over. This cut back on a lot of black smoke aswell. This helps considerably with the mot aswell.I'm not sure if this will be the same on a fiat or not but i would of thought it would

Will do, I guess it's a personal choice with this heated valve debate, some may be happy to keep stock because that's how it was made and it's green - all that crap in the valve is only a fraction of what goes back into the engine I'd rather not breathe it myself. Alternatively fit a plate/disconnect because maybe it's more reliable and better on juice. In my case I just want the warning light to go out, the difference seems marginal.
For those averse to spanners who suspect they have a problem, you could try this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/air-intake--inlet-valves-egr-valve-cleaner-diesel_W0QQitemZ160332324948QQcmdZViewItem?rvr_id=216832348155&rvr_id=216832348155&cguid=91eafad712e0a0a9f622ff72fff6050f

The egr's on the hilux surfs are not required on them in the UK so this is why we were taking them off once the packed in.I don't think the egr is required on any vehicle in the uk for mot purposes but i may be wrong.I thought they were required by law in countries that were heavy with traffic and to help keep the emmissions down being pushed out the exhaust.
As already said in the thread all the egr does is recirculate the gas and then push it out the exhaust but its not required over here as the emmissions laws are different to abroad

There's only one person posting "Clap-Trap" in this thread and thats you.
So is that the finest rebut you can muster is it. Given up posting snippets you've copied from the internet without even understanding their content have we? Can we anticipate more of your legendary drivel?

Your wrong and you know it.
An EGR on a Diesel engine reduces power and increases fuel comsumption.
Strange you're unable to support that claim then by any reasoned discussion.

..and I hope you can do better than this:
In answer to Adam's question about higher combustion temperatures due to disabled EGR
My EGR has been blocked off completely for quite a while now and my temp guage is still planted firmly in the middle, not hotter, not cooler, just the same as before.
You actually think that if the combustion process runs hotter then you're going to notice it on the water temperature gauge do you?

Need I say more

Fiat part number for the JTD 115 8 valve has changed several times and the metal housing for the solenoid has been replaced with a black plastic one. This is the Vauxhall equivalent for the JTD 8v EGR valve.

eBay Item number: 220729554344

They are made for Fiat and Vauxhall by Pierburg. You would need to compare the Pierberg part numbers from your valve and the Vauxhall one to confirm suitability.

The Vauxhall Z19D** engines are the same as the equivalent Fiat JTD engines, so most of the parts will be the same. Vauxhall prices for the same parts are cheaper than Fiat prices though.

The Vauxhall part number (55215032) in the eBay listing is the same as the Fiat part number for the EGR valve for a 1910 8v JTD 115 Grande Punto and Croma. I've no idea why Fiat list a different part number for the Stilo 1910 8v JTD 115.

The only difference between the Vauxhall and Fiat supplied EGR valves that I can think of is that perhaps they use a different connector.

Not sure why you keep asking? Isn't it a straight swap?

Although they look the same and will physically fit, nobody has has confirmed yet that they are the same.

not sure if any help but i got my jtd 16v egr valve from a vauxhall parts place off ebay, it was an updated version but still a straight fit on no visable differences.

Assuming it's actually working correctly, that seems to confirm the Vauxhall 16 valve version is the same as the Fiat 16 valve one. (y) We just need someone to confirm the 8 valve one now.

how did you get on fitting vauxhall egr valve to fiat stilo jtd ???

Sorry for the delay but did it yestersday and it fits, the only difference I can see is that the Vauxhall one's solenoid is 90 degrees rotated and you can't rotate it to match because the holes in the body will only align in that position, no problem though, the connector reaches and after a reset with my ebay cable, not a peep since so job done :slayer:
I've uploaded a couple of pictures for reference.

Cheers,

Keith

It certainly is, & nor did I ... I wonder if that's something Yani could add to FES, as that would most definitely be useful for diagnostic & experimentation purposes.

Would be very useful for those that want to remove the EGR but not sure it would be much use for trouble shooting.
The most common EGR problem is a build up of crap causing the EGR to stick open resulting in power loss and excessive smoke. The only way to check the EGR is causing the problem is to blank it off and see if the lost power returns and the smoke disapears. Simply disabling the EGR would not close it because its physically stuck open so the problem would continue.

Car just been for MOT with EGR blanked off and passed no problems, well chuffed but still going to replace when other one comes. Giv the old one a good clean, when they need replacing can swap and clean other one so always got a spare.
