Hi Guys...

Im not sure if i have or problem or not or if it just me! But i seem to be hearing like a creeking noise when i turning my steering; it seems to happen the worst when i first use the car in the morning then gets slightly better! It sound like a creeking/crunching noise, it might just be the noise of the power steering motor, i know the power steering in the punto was a little noisey?! Has anyone else expericened this before? Its like having a squeeky clucth; its getting annoying! Dont know if to take into the dealer or not? or has anyone else got any ideas as to what else it could be apart from the power steering motor, happens the worst when turning the car on nearly full lock!

Hi 1.8 Stilo.

Noise on full lock when cold could be due to the load being put on the alternator to supply the juice for the motor helping the steering. If it is a squealing noise then it will probably be the alternator belt slippiing due to the above. Either tighten the old one, or have a new one fitted if it is worn.

I think the power steering motor is under the dash (sure I'll be corrected if wrong on that one!! ;) ) can you localise the sound? Anyway good luck.

Can't help you on that one, but could you help me? Got the same wheels as you on my 02 1.6 active and having problems whith the car pulling to the left. had it back to the garage 3 times for tracking but they say it's spot on!
had the car back to main dealer but they say that it's the wheels, not sutable for the car even though they still advertise the same wheel package for £800. Have you had any problems like this as I think it could be the steering rack!

Mine's been making a creaking sound when I turn the wheel - especially when the car's cold.

Gonna take it into the dealer to get it looked at but I'm compiling a list of other things to get them to check at the same time.

There's another thread which seems to be about the same thing and loads of folk saying they've had their rack replaced.

Hi all,

Sorry for raising this thread from the dead but I have the same problem. I had a 30-40mph crash with a motorway barrier and I have repaired the cosmetic damage and have just started on the mechanics.

I get a load of creeking whenever I turn the wheel along with a dodgey steering. When I turn the steering wheel does not return to its central position and I wonder if it's somthing to do with its creeky steering???
