I suspect a standard multipurpose oil in a premium container with a premium price. Do you think this could be true of all manufacturers?
As said in post #1, there are differences in specs. between many Castrol oils so I don't think it would be wise to  and consider them all the same.

Castrol 0W-30 has something of a cult following (especially in the USA) and Mobil 1 oil is highly respected by many so I'd say these are class leaders.

What I find intriguing is Mobil 0W-30 has a different (ACEA) spec to Castrol 0W-30 which is surprising as you'd expect them to be interchangeable.

Anyway, I'll be a Mobil man as of Monday so it wont concern me after that :)

Silkolene who are one of the top motorbike oil manufacturers sell a road bike oil and an off road bike oil. the packaging is the same bar different stickers. Price difference is about 75p-£1 a litre and to quote a silkolene salesman "its exactly the same stuff". Whats all that about then?

Funny that the Castrol bloke didn't say why they discontinued the diesel oil.

Argo,
Just found this thread ! (note to self look more often)
I use a 5w-40 ,as for the make it is made by Fuchs as i am told by the supplier, it is re-packed into 1 gallon cans by a company called penine lubricants. It makes no mention on the can whether it is for diesel/petrol engines but it is good stuff
I used that in my Brava JTD for years too and never ever gave me any prolems at all and the price 15 of your best shiny pounds !!

Kind regards,

Kind regards,
