Hi,

The locking on my Fiat Stilo 1.2 2003 model is constantly going on and off (as in it constantly seems to be locking / unlocking itself). This is both whilst driving and whats more annoying, it also seems to do it when the car is not in use. My current work around involves removing the connection between the drivers side panel for operating the wing mirrors, windows and the central locking itself and this stops all of these functions including the locking problem. I've tried to clean out the electrics in said panel as best I can but just wondered if anyone else has had the same problem or any other ideas as to where the problem is coming from as I've had no joy so far and I'm certainly no knowledge base for this kind of thing.

I'm sure Decks will be along soon with the proper answer, but have you tried cleaning the electrical connector that links the body to the door (between the two door hinges)? I believe this has worked for others in the past.

I have the same problem.
When engine stops, central locking works again and again.
I clean all connectors in the dashboard, but problem not lost.
Now i remove power cable from dashboard when car is parked :(

Today i unsuccessfully tried to solve my problem.
Only thing that i achieved - it that if i disconnect driver's side control unit problem is disappear.
Is it means that problem in driver's side control unit?

My guess would be a bad connection in the driver's door lock mechanism. The control unit cannot decide if the doors are open or shut, so keeps locking/unlocking. This was a particular problem in 1982 when the Rover SD1 changed from being switched by both front doors to switched by the driver's door only. If one door is open when the other is locked, the control unit gets confused and upset.

One of the front doors is telling lies.

portland_bill, thanks for your reply!

I don't think that problem in door switch, because i disconnected all door connectors and problem is still take place.

Here some my thoughts:

Symptoms:
1. If ignition is switched off then central locking constantly locks all doors.
2. If ignition is switched on then central locking constantly unlocks all doors.
Time between this operations is different - sometime very quickly, sometime very slow (very slow on cold engine, quickly after long time driving).

My attempts of repairing:
1. Cleaning contacts of jacks, fuses box in dashboard, jacks of body computer and fuses box from top of the battery.
2. Disconnection of door big connectors (my previous post about driver control unit is not correct, it still locks again and again).
3. Disconnection D and B connectors

It works, because i disconnect body computer from door's control units :)
4. Disconnection C connector - it also works (body computer is switched off)

Interesing moments:
1. If I switch on/off body computer frequency of this operations becomes slower.
2. When these problems are take place, one from lock/unlock keys doesn't work.
3. If i open car with key, driver's windows opens.
4. When these problems are take place, on one wire (lock/unlock for distant key) disappears 12v.

Sorry for my english and thanks for your replies!

Reply a bit late, but it might help someone.

The doors unlocking with their own mind is usually the boot close switch.
The switch is not making properly and causesall the doors to lock and unlock.

The solution is to replace the switch in the boot door, just under the rubber grip at the bottom ot the handle. The rubber grip comes out easily enough and the switch is in a housing.

I just replaced the switch, needed to push the switch up a bit to make and break when squeezing.

A bit late. The OP is from 2010 :) The car also has a setting that locks the doors when you take up drive. Not sure if it unlocks them again when you slow down/stop.

This has been an ongoing problem for me for some time now but originally it was only whilst I was driving. Now it is doing it when I am not in the car, which is a problem.
Does anyone know if there is fuse I could take out to completely disable the central locking and stop this from happening? I've checked the manual but not sure which one it is.
I'm happy just to use manual locking if it saves me having to pay someone to repair it.

Occured for me whem my battery was on the way out...it never occured while driving probably because the battery was being pumped by the alternator
