My car just came back from a service and I found the mirror like this, I am not sure it it was like that before, anyway, how do I get it back into were it is supposed to be, or for that matter is this how it should be. Thanks

That looks like it's taken a heavy knock and someone has tried to refit it and did it badly. I'd have a close look and see if someone has maybe broken it whilst it was in the garage and they replaced it without saying anything, hoping you wouldn't notice

If not then I would take it out to reposition it properly as it's held in by three screws from the inside of the car door

Once you've prised out the tweeter panel then there's 3 screws securing the mirror. You can see one of them above

Note. If you need to change the mirror base entirely then that's more involved as you need to get access to the door node inside the door to disconnect the wiring

thats what I like about the forum, fast and to the point. Thanks again for the input. Will give it a go over the week-end and report back. Have a good week-end.

Feedback on the mirror.

Be careful when you unclip the tweeter panel, as you can very easily crack it. I started at the top and worked my way downwards.
As mentioned above there are 3 screws holding the mirror to the door. Two of them easily spotted (although one is behind and to the left bottom). The third one, however, is behind the rubber strip that run along the top of the door. (Red circle)This needs to be slowly squeezed off with a small nose pliers, as the rubber can be damaged with a screwdriver (yes I did). Once you sorted them the mirror can be removed, just be careful, it got a rubber like backing that can be fused to the body if the car is old.

The problem was that the mirror was bump as Deckchair5 suspected and one of the bottom screws (actually copper nuts with a screw pattern on them) pulled out of its recess, and cracked the plastic around it. But it is sorted now.

Hope this feedback will help.
