Hi everybody. I am new to this forum and I hope you'll be able to help me with my problem! :)

So..
I bought used Stilo (1.6 16V, 3 doors, 2002., 95k km) about month ago and after few weeks it started to give me troubles. While driving around the engine just turned off suddenly and all dashboard lights turned on, including the injector light which would also blink. RPM was around 2k-3k. I can turn on car without a problem after that. That happened four, five times during that day. Sometimes I'm able to drive without even a slight problem. :confused:
I went to official FIAT diagnostics and first time they connected the Examiner, there was P0606 error which I think has something with the ECU (correct me if I'm wrong). Day later (car in the meantime also turned off) they couldn't read any errors. So I went to get second opinion and same problem, no errors on computer. Mechanics checked the car upside down and couldn't find anything.
My question is, could this be due to the bad ECU or something else interfering with electronics, like aftermarket alarm which was installed few years ago (the seller told me). I don't believe it's mechanical problem because compression ratio, lambda sonde, etc. are fine.
Please help me if you can.
Oh, and OCS airbag sensor doesn't work, I will replace it in the near future.

Sorry for my bad english, I'm trying my best. :D

Yes P0606 is ECU fault which could be anything to do with the ECU but it might be a simple bad earth fault at the ECU, especially as the ECU didn't have time to log a fault, probably because it was inactive at the time

I forgot to mention, the mechanics at Fiat garage added additional earth wire which did not fix the problem..

That's the first item to check then

If not then there may be a poor contact at the ECU connectors most likely on the main power supply pins as it has to be something to instantly stop the ECU working as if you'd turned off the key

Ok, I'll check it out when I'll have time. Do you have any other ideas in case that this isn't the source of problem?

Thanks btw

I was kinda hoping you won't mention internal fault in the ECU. :D
I'll report back when I check the wiring.

I just got call from my mechanic, he told me the wiring was ok. It looks like ECU is the problem.

Bah..

Should I buy brand new ECU from FIAT or repaired with warranty if they give any?

buy a reconditioned one, they look and work like new but are a lot cheaper !

Gert you got any sites that do them over there for your fellow countryman we have many over here but that wouldnt be the best way forward for him I feel ..

@PNL
If you were reffering to me as "fellow countryman", I am not.
I'm from Croatia and he's from Netherlands. :)
But nevertheless I'll use google and try to find what I'm looking for.

@yellowstilo

tnx for reply

i just meant ordering a reconditioned one at the Fiat dealer - they are about half the price of a new one but look and work just like a new one......
I don't know adresses of companies that can repair or revirginise old ecu's in the Netherlands but that wouldn't really help Noda from Croatia....

hello i need some help dont get no answer on this site my fiat stilo i fitted a second hand engine in and will not start

I also tryed everything but it seem I have to change my ECU as well. One of my ideas was that (and basicly it is working from that point of view) to put a shim made from teflon under and above everx of the ECU screws. With this there is no metallic connection between the engine and the ECU so theoriticaly the ECU not get so much heat from the negine. The air is good enough like isulator. Of course for this an additional earth cable needed directly to the battery earth because the existing one is really tiny. Anyway this is not saved me so I have to change the ECU. I think I will buy a used and put the Immo data with a local workshop. Wish me luck. :)

hello i have a ecu for sale dont know if i can help its off a engine i bought
