Re: Stilo 1.9 JTD 3D

Since this post I have decided to replace my battery for performance and other arising issues with my 115 JTD. The battery packs :spin: spoken off above have bigger dimensions from the standard battery tray in a JTD Stilo and have considerably both more voltage and amp power from the recommended JTD batteries.

I took the advice given a searched for a decent,know battery brand and found a few packs online( pics down the bottom of the page). They both have bigger dimensions and AH capacity.

Is there any recommended power increase:idea: limit that is considered safe or does it not matter?

This may sound silly but, has any modified their battery tray to fit a bigger battery, if so could you let us in on a few pics or some info on how to modify it please.

Thanks

Re: Stilo 1.9 JTD 3D

They dont have more power just Higher capacity so will take longer to discharge.
In any case most cars can handle little above 15v before any problems (may) occur.
The battery tray is pretty large in the stilo and has a lot more space for a bigger battery.
Most people upgrading normally put in a yellow top or Hawkers.

You won't need a battery that is physically bigger than the battery tray.

The battery box/tray is the same on all Stilos and should have a plastic strip (item 4) clipped into holes in the bottom of the tray. The plastic strip is to stop a smaller battery (as fitted to vehicles with smaller engines) sliding about in the tray. It can be moved to different holes to accomodate different size batteries or removed completely to accomodate the biggest battery that will fit.

Re: Stilo 1.9 JTD 3D

Yea you can see that I was not fully looking at what I was typing there:bang:, cheers for the info (y).

In relation to the battery tray, I did today take time to open up my battery cover and have a peek to take measurements of the tray. I am not sure that the VARTA batteries which I posted above will fit in the tray. They measure out in length at near on 28 cm and the tray in my JTD stilo seemed to measure out at a much smaller length than that.

Whichever way I will be replacing the battery and just wondered if and how somebody had modified their battery tray on their stilo if it ever did need to be done.

Oh by the way volxstu, to give you an update on the ECU booster, it looks like I need to invest a lot more in to the project than I thought, (performance clutch, etc) so still have the desire but need more money for the project:idea:, Keep you posted of how and when (y).

I though I would share these pics so that if anyone like me previously searches or has any questions in relation to replacing their Stilo battery these pics may help (y).

Battery tray dimensions in JTD Stilo:

L = 30cm
W = 19cm
H = 20cm

The VARTA is an E44 model, 77ah and 780A (cold test current). The long clip in one of the pics is what you can remove from inside the tray to fit a bigger battery so Mr Davren pointed out to me a while ago (y).

Only downside i had was that due to the new battery being around 3 to 4 cm longer i had a niggly issue trying to fit the battery cover back in, after a few huffs and puffs it was all sorted, kind off (y).

Oh and the battery difference, well worth its money :slayer:

Re: Fiat Stilo battery change

I use a 70ah in my abarth and the engine still revs down when using door windows, city steering.

I guess I'm in the need for a bigger one lol

I thought the VARTA batteries fit straight in Perfectly?

Yea no fuss, I simply went for a bigger battery in the end and I wanted to post the pics for people who were thinking of buying a bigger battery to see how if fitted in the Stilo tray :devil:, thats all.

Blinding battery, smoothy morning start up, LOVE IT :slayer:

Oh yea, forgot to mention, the size difference of the battery was in the width of the battery. The new E44 Varta battery that I purchased is roughly 4 cm`s longer than the old standard one, the battery just fitted in . (y)

That's an 096 which should fit in perfectly. The only modification you may have to make is to discard the plastic locating strip from the bottom of the tray.

Think I can live with that. Its not even getting THAT cold yet and i can feel the difference in start up of a morning compared with summer. OEM battery is feeling the strain.

It is a blinding battery the VARTA E44 and there was no mods done to the battery tray at ALL, it just fitted in perfect (y), the pics i posted was just to show everyone the new battery.
