Re: FiatEcuScan diagnostic software

For PAS and ABS you need a 'patch cable' which swaps the K-line into different pins to allow comms between ECU's and software (i think fiat did it to stop people easily messing with vital safety systems such as steering, brakes and SRS) all info on the patch cables is HERE

the patch cables you can buy at Gendan not a bad price either i can only find the OBD connectors and terminals for upwards of 5 EACH and id need 4 + wires + making them and they would look no where near as nice as those

No patch cable needed, read the FiatECUScan How To Guide.

NOTE: You have to solder a short wire between pins 1-7-9 of your interface's OBD connector in order to connect to ABS and Power steering ECUs. Also, you need to have a connection on pin 3 of the OBD connector in order to connect to airbags.

http://www.fiatecuscan.net/HowToUse.aspx

Edit
Personally I'd leave Pin 3 alone. Messing with airbags should be left to the professionals.

No patch cable is needed for PAS and ABS as I stated earlier.

Your post never mentioned:

ELM327->ECU Connection failed' when trying to reset service light

Try here for a solution:

EDIT
Removing the R04 resistor worked for me.

This interface is compatible with ELM 327 1.4! Should connect properly with all CAN modules.
just about to email the ebay supplier about getting a wiring diagram for the PCB inside the module as i cant figure out from the FES forum thread about modding the resistors.

Re: FiatEcuScan diagnostic software

I know this software allows you to "Clear Errors" which are reported / stored... does this allow you to clear the "Service Due"?
The garage I use cannot clear the message, and it's being quoted 60 from the Main Dealer to clear it on their behalf... tut tut

Re: FiatEcuScan diagnostic software

Yes... it will reset the service interval counter but you will need the ELM327 interface and a registered version of FES.

Earlier versions of FES didn't need to be registered to reset the service interval.

Therefore, it would still be cheaper (than paying dealer) for him in the short term to buy a cheap (sub 20ish) ELM327 via ebay and reset the service counter with an earlier (pre v2,31 IIRC) free version ... and he would still have the ELM for later IF he wanted to upgrade FES versions (having tried it & realised how good FES is).

Thanks alot I might consider this afterall... FES sounds pretty damn good, It's starting to sound like I could loose my virginity all over again with FES.

Yea 60 to reset the service I just said "No chance! I'll rather drive around with it on my dash for 10 years just for the sake of you not quickly clearing it"

Re: FiatEcuScan diagnostic software

Ok my old laptop fell off the car roof and bust so I'm looking to buy another, preferabley a cheap and cheerfull one the same as my old laptop.

I purchased one off eBay for 150, turned out to be a bag of s**t so I got my money refunded(via paypal) and posted it back to the seller an hour ago.

Been looking at a few Toughbooks on ebay but I dont think the sub 200 ones will run FES. Minimum of a 1.5 Ghz processor needed I believe?

So my next question is will a Samsung N310 Netbook run FES ok?

The Spec:
Processor: Intel Atom N270
Clock speed: 1.6 GHz
RAM: 1024 MB
Motherboard: Intel 945GSE + ICH7M
Hard Drive: 160 GB
Interfaces / Networking: USB 3, Ethernet, Bluetooth, Wireless networking
Graphics processor: Intel GMA 950
Display: Diagonal size 10.1 inches.
Maximum resolution: 1024600 Pixels
Audio: Built-in speakers
Dimensions: (W x H x D) 26230x185mm
Weight 1.2 kg
Available colours: Black, Blue, Other
Battery technology Li-ion
Battery capacity 4000 mAh
Operating system: Microsoft Windows XP Home
Webcam: 1.3MP webcam

My mate just had it given to him as part of a mobile phone deal. He said I can have it for 200, boxed brand new and unopened.
