I have the full 2008/2009 European set of 18 Cds from Navteq. So far, I've only ever used the UK map, however, this weekend I'm driving to Greece for a few months.

Has anyone used the Navteq maps for travelling across Europe?

Do they stop working when you get to a border or is there some overlap?

Does it tell you when to insert the next country's disk?

I know that every disk also has the major roads of Europe but how does that work? From the UK disk, for example, I can't see any way to program a route along major roads to Paris or Venice for example.

It would be nice to know what to expect rather than trying to change disks whilst driving along an Autoroute, Autobahn or Autostrada.

That doesn't sound too clever. Most PDA type systems will allow route calculations across national boundaries and even OziExplorer will auto-change maps on the fly.

Does the system not include a PC system to allow route calculations and map creation for purely the areas you intend to visit (quite a common feature on many PDA/GPS systems where memory might be restricted - although less so nowadays with modern high capacity storage) ?

I think most people agree that the CN+ is not the best bit of kit for navigation but I'm a purist and don't want to fit a non standard system.

There's a separate disk for each country and only one disk will fit in the CN+ at a time. As far as I can see there's no way of programing a route across disks or if you're not actualy located in the country that the disk in the CN+ relates to.

There is an atlas function so I can put any country's disk in the CN+ and view the roads on that disk but I can't program a route unless located in the country.

I always thought that you'd have to insert the disc with the final destination, let it compute the route and then you can replace the CD or leave the one with the destination in the unit and start at the nearest major road.
