Right have checked the fuse and ok, Light doesnt come on in the dash and the cruise control doesnt work. Brake lights work fine so any ideas or is it a visit to the dealer for a check.

No beep beeps or error messages either, Just was working last friday and have noticed it yesterday that its dead.

Thanks

check the plug in the steering column and the plug in the engine bay under the battery. may be loose or the one in the engine bay needs cleaning (see D4 cleaning guide)

Well went out today and guess what........................................,

Its working again without any probing so must be a loose conection somewhere.;)

Hello,

I have thesame problem. I replaced the brakelightswitch today. At first the crousecontrol light on the dash came on and i thought yes!! it works. But after a short time it went dead again.
The car is a stilo 1.6 dynamic 16V from 2004 with 67.500 KM.

Where can i find any information about this problem?
Witch connectors must be cleaned?

Thanks,
Ate

My car does this too sometimes. Usually on a long journey. It will always come back if I stop the engine and restart it again though. I have reseated all connectors I could find, but it never made a difference.

Maybe get the fault codes read to see if there is a reason for it.
Cruise control is purely an electronic function on the JTD. There are no mechanical actuators etc to go wrong like on an older diesel or petrol engine.

It wont be the brake light switch. It will stop you enabling cruise control, but the light on the dash will still come on when you turn the power switch on. On mine the whole system goes dead. I am sure it is picking up a fault code, which clears when you restart it.

for some reason going to the last page of https://www.fiatforum.com/stilo/42669-after-market-cruise-control.html doesnt work, but as per this thread title:

i fitted the alfa romeo stalk today to the D4B using the guide by Rich. i know the cruise light will never come on, but it doesnt work at all. nothing happens.

is there anything thats meant to come up on the screen? do you have to be in 5th for it to work?

No. It works in any gear. Just make sure you are not pressing the brake or clutch. Lightly resting your foot on the clutch will trip the clutch pedal switch and stop it coming on.
Mine shows the green symbol and says Cruise Control On, on the display when you turn the power on, but when you actually enable it by turning the cruise knob, it says nothing.
Are you sure you are using it correctly? Set the switch to on, then when at the correct speed, you have to twist the end knob on the stalk to the speed up direction to actually set the speed.

nope, still not working

can people who have had the alfa stalk wired into the D4B please confirm their procedures and experiences.

Oz, the stick won't matter as it's the same as the Stilo stick. Also, the light won't come on for after-factory installations.

Is your brake pedal switch ok? Seeing as the Stilo was notorious for this, some dodgy switches can cause the cruise control not to work. If not, go back to the drawing board so to speak and check you're wiring.

i know that. its just that it doesnt work at all so i was looking for any indications to whether it operates or not.

as far as i know the brake switch is fine, and i've also re-checked all of the wiring.

:bang::bang::bang:

punto60_s, thanks for clearing up the colours.

as far as i can tell, i have done exactly what you have, and we both have JTD's that were wired the same?

so how come yours works and mine doesnt :bang:

Yep mines a JTD and semi :D

Could try going back to basics, ensure the stalk is working perhaps using a multimeter to ensure when you are using the cruise control buttons (e.g. switching on, + speed, - speed, resume) the voltages are getting through to the d4a. - Dont know much about this as I never needed to do any problem solving for it not working, but you get what I mean.

Not to offend but ensure your using it properly, over 30mph, switch on, hold + for 2 secs.

Glad the wiring picture at least confirmed it was wired correctly (how mine is)

Just having a look why my cruise control doesnt work and havent got any contact cleaner, why cant i use wd-40.

Anything else i can use or just leave it alone, the green light doesnt light up at all on the dash and stuck to what else it might be other than the D4 connector.

Thanks

vodka is good or any medical/rubbing alcohol (also any soft drink is good at removing metal corrosion - cola takes the cake - but it is sweet so you need to wash it off after and water + electrics..) i've no idea why you can't use wd40.. Perhaps it is conductive? Or perhaps it would form a layer around metal contacts hence increasing resistance? Or maybe it'll react with metal and form a non conductive layer? Or maybe it's because it does not clean nor does it remove corrosion..

Right have had a play and not made a jot of difference, but have noticed that the on/off switch must be working as when the car does the check the green cruise light comes on then goes out but doesnt when the cruise is switched off.

Any other suggestions as what to try, fuse is fine, there isnt any other fuse's anywhere is there??

Thanks because im at a loss now?????
