Hi, can you help at all,
the car is a 1.9 JTD 2002 Dynamic 17" Claws 82,000 that I have had since 2003 and I have some noises at the front of the car.
It sounds like a rumbling that increases with road speed and is loudest on engine braking and braking.
The noise is still there when the clutch is depressed and the gearbox in neutral but slightly quieter.
There is a fine vibration at times through the steering wheel and vibration now through the throttle peddle. Sometimes the steering wheel will pull to left slightly under braking.

The engine itself has a noise when parked that also sounds like a rumble. This decreases when the belt is wet. ( splash guards off at the moment for easier access )

What's been changed:
Cambelt and tensioners at 72,000, original water pump. (wrong move on water pump)
Aux belt and main tensioner bearing - recent.
both wishbones - recent
both front wheel bearings - now
one trackrod end - now
Front discs and pads at 72,000. (Hair line crack runs the length of one pad towards outer perimeter of disc, near side)
Both rear dampers - now

Test drive by dealer techs undetermined maybe wheel bearing. - since changed and one bearing faulty. noise persits

Clutch - original, some deterioration in pulling away, acceleration good, no blue smoke.
Driveshafts - original, some backlash, no clicking on either steering full locks.

No dashboard errors, no error codes. (yet)

and in a lighter vein, there is more heat from the heater on right hand turns only. (lol)

There is not a lot left to change but would appreciate any possible avenues to identify where the problem might lay.
Thanks Gerald

Looked at differential bearings yet? Is there any oil leaking from the drive shaft seals in the gearbox?
Also possibly, but unlikely is a binding brake calliper.

May sound silly and i'm sure you have but not mentioned it.... have you had the wheels balanced or checked the tyres for bulges, etc?

Hi, No its not silly, alloys have been spun to see if they are running out and there is not the steering wheel heavy vibrations associated with balance but to elimate them I will put the 15" steels back on to see if there is a difference.
Thanks

Just as easy to swap back to front - will soon show up a defective tyre or alloy

Update: CV boot has split and under investigation with the drive shaft free the inner CV had excessive movement and when dismantled with the view of re-building, excessive wear was found on the bearings and the tripod/spider cage cracked.

Complete drive shaft being ordered.

Best pricing:

Fiat £132 - £137 Plus £37 deposit.
Both exchange

Dealer is on the doorstep so will be getting it from there.

ps. taking the alloys off cured the rumble on braking and the vibrations by changing the driveshaft. Claw 17" ns rear and ns front were throwing out, the rear was the worst.
