Hey was just wondering if someone could tell me if my car would make the same noise that vw tdis make when they are decatted if i was to go for it and take the cat out of my downpipe on my stilo and put a straight pipe through to the back. You can hear the noise in this video just after he shifts each time, i think it sounds immense and have heard many vw and seat diesels make this noise. hopefully it aint specific to vw lol anyone know what makes this noise happen?

It should make a difference to performance. When I was driving mine with the center exhaust joint bolts loose and about to fall off, the turbo pickup was so much better and from lower revs.

To decat a derv is very easy and also free. The most common way is to take the cat off , then with a long chisel and hammer smash the cat part out from inside its housing, then put it back on. Just be careful not to damage the housing as leaks are an MOT fail.

Also, the stilo JTD has 2 of them. One in the middle and one small one up just by the turbo.

...but surely it would fail on emissions anyway :chin:
No, a diesel only has a smoke test for MOT purposes and the cat does not affect this. It will pass. I took the cat off my old rover 200 diesel, with the intention of removing the core, only to find that someone had already done it. There was nothing inside and it does not behave any differently at MOT time.

im not sure what sound i was trying to listen for lol? thats what mine sounds like anyway. (well in my opinion better :) )

you sure diesels dont get tested on emissions? my mate is an mot tester and has a specific machine called dieseltune iirc, im sure that tests emissions and mine got an average of 1.6 are you saying that was a smoke test?

mines decatted. havent noticed any 'sounds' other than the slight backbox grumble and the turbo pickup is louder, and yes, there is a performance increase. throttle is much more responsive, and engine much more willing to rev

decatting a deisel stilo will have NO effect on MOT (y)

but have you removed both cats or just the 2nd one?
