Hi All,

Really quick question... I've just had new pads and discs fitted to my Abarth, how long/many miles would you expect the bed in period to be for them? They're either OEM or Unipart discs and pads as they were fitted before delivery following an MOT recommendation.

I've noticed that I get alot of bite with little pedal pressure at low speeds (30-40mph) but I need to apply alot more pressure at high speeds(>60mph). I'm putting this down to the pads and discs not being bedded in yet... hopefully that's the issue!

Cheers,

Greggers

They should be bedded in at around 100 miles try not to glaze the pads with heavy braking though :)

You probably have the cheapest crap they could find fitted. You may never have very good brakes till you change the pads to something better.

And that comment I would wholeheartedly agree with ..I used GSR/red dot on my stilo and the braking efficiency went up 100% after doing so ..

Ha ha... I wouldn't be at all suprised. I'm not too fussed though, I'm not what you would consider to be "the last of the late brakers" :D

The brakes are still a million times better than my last car though... I'll wait unitl I've done enough braking to take the rust off the discs before I pass too much judgement

Well! At least as long as they don't squeal then I'm sure you'll make a few Stilo owners jealous ;)

:D

Nope, no squeel... but I did apply a tub of margerine to each disc to make sure it didn't happen :D

I see you're a Poole boy... I'm originally from Ringwood, now living in East London. I'll have to make sure I keep an eye out for your motor the next time I'm down in tractor country...

Get yourself a disc/pad set of Mintex squealy's. They hurt your ears, but they stop you much better than OEM ones. Cheap as chips, but GSR/EBC will be a world better.

Ah.... but you'll now need to find some way to give your left leg a good workout too ;)

Stilo owner's will always get a welcome from me (y) although I have to say this area must have the most boring bunch of Stilo drivers I've had the misfortune to encounter (Forum members excluded of course). Eyes straight ahead and avoiding eye contact as much as possible, I'm sure most don't even know what car they're driving :dead:
