Hey guys, been reading these forums for a while now and decided I should finally register.

I have a 2004 1.4 Active, had it for a couple of months now and very happy with it, apart from some of the common faults (wind noise, I have a creaking noise coming from bedhind the steering wheel and the passenger door doesn't always open with the remote central locking).

Anyway my question is: I have a 40GB iPod which I am hoping to hardwire into the radio, my stereo is just the standard tape deck one. At the moment I am using an iTrip which ranges from good to bad depending on my location. I have been considering the Ice Link 1.1 but it seems a tad expensive, Has anyone any experience with installing an ICE link in their stilo and does anyone know if it will actually connect to my stereo as it is the Radio Deck one and not the CD stereo. Or does anyone know of any good alternatives for hard wiring an iPod into the stereo?

What's wrong with the iTRIP, i thought it was an excellent addition for the iPOD? Must be wrong. My only advice would have been an FM transmitter but as you already use one, that's no good!

This is an improved iTRIP:

So to use this I need an ipod & one of those things on the link? Does it work with the new mini ipod thing?

Cheers

Hornet, best choice if you haven't got an iPOD is:

http://www.maplin.co.uk/products/module.asp?CartID=040529140552554&moduleno=42532&Addon=F&modulecode=

If you can't find it from that link: www.maplin.co.uk , search for code: L79AU

Half price, great value!

The iTrip isn't a bad bit of hardware, but I find that it doesn't work well with low volume songs, I get alot of hissing and depending on the location of me driving I can get alot of interfernce. Overall it's a bit hit and miss.

I see, I bought a cheapo FM transmitter ages ago and made my own case for it etc. and found the same, bit hit and miss, thought the professionally made versions would be better!

Oh and sorry, welcome to the forum!

I have used a number of methods for my car during my ownership:

FM transmitter, DIY version, - pretty poor.
Tape cassette adapter - annoying but better than the above
Both used with MD and Mp3 players
Now use a JVC CD headunit, mainly CDs but ocassionally use the AUX input on it for my sony mp3 player/MD unit.
WOuld look at the above item from maplin but i have to sell my car in october.
