Just had a problem with the fuses in the battery compartment being coroded into place. Managed to break one trying to get it out to replace it. :bang:

Has anyone else had this problem

Battery cover is fitted, although there is a large amount of fine sand/grit in there.

T, Is it beneficial to spray WD40 inside the fusebox or for that matter on all the exposed connectors under the bonnet.
Or would that cause problems? like altered resistance?
If so, how far would you take it regarding sealed connectors?

I have often considered this as a preventative measure but never been sure on modern cars.

Regards:)

Lobster.......funny you should say that but I have seen loads with a grit type sand over them....just assumed it was winter grit on the roads.

Due to the design of the wheelarch liner (which has a "vent" at the front), it may be circulating a current of air around the battery cover, which then deposits the sand - especially if it is damp air that then evaporates in the hot engine bay.

Both our Stilos suffer from this phenomenon - the engine covers remain clean in comparison.

You sure someone hasn't driven it on a beach?

As far as I'm aware, in the four years I've owned the car it's only been on Southport beach once.... I'll try and get a photo of the inside of the battery cover, if I can get all the bolts undone, I've got one captive nut that is spinning around in the housing...and yes it's the front one right up against the bulk head/radiator. :bang:
