ok with the other thread going off the rails a a bit , i thought WE should all cast a vote to see how we all feel about having a small section for members to discuss about other cars (they may have or if a friend or member of thier faimly wants soem advice about thier car)

i know this is a fiat forum, but i thhink it is unfair for memebrs who have been loyall to this forum for years, to sell thier car and not been able to find another sutible forum to go onto and discuss problems about their (NEW) car

thanks

rich

If,IMO,this wrong idea goes ahead can we have a control in the CP to stop the section showing up in new posts for us that are not interested in belonging to this section.

There are also other members who own more than just Fiats - Steve for example, was talking of buying a Lada, he owns an Alfa....................

Yes who have been members quite happily for a fair while so question again why is it so important now:confused:

It's got nothing to do with me

C'mon it's a multicultural world we live in and some people own more than one make of car or no longer own a Fiat but love this place.
What would you do if a guy who came from another country or his skin was a different colour, married a british woman because he fell in love with her and put money into this country because he came to love that too, suddenly found himself alone because his woman had ran off with another man. Would you tell him to bugger off and find somewhere else you are welcome or give him the benefit of the doubt, and say OK mate you have contributed to this place more than you have taken from it and you are a valued member of this comunity, please stay around here and do your best to continue as a valued member.

I have found other places full of lovely people who want to talk about my next car, but there no place like home.

I was not talking about anybody as individuals but the forum has always talked about other peoples cars and never once, that I know of, has anyone been cut out of the forum for their car. What I would not want to see is the forum turning into a general car forum which could happen if a sub forum was developed for other car makes, where would it stop? a sub forum inside the sub forum for every car make, a leisure lounge, etc.
I just think the forum has matured into a large family type affair even in the short time I have been using it, with out putting up any artificial barriers to seperate people out.
In the short term it could work as only people that have had an attraction to the Fiat would be posting so small numbers but what would happen when the word gets out, which it would, that there are other cars catered for on the forum, would there be a limit on non Fiat owner numbers or will the Fiat family effect be drowned out and the general car forum appear?

It's called evolution :)
Things change, hopefully for the better. A small section, which is deliberately kept as small as possible, would stop FF being overrun with other marques in terms of numbers.

It wasn't as important before due to the sheer age of FF. The more well known members this time two years ago owned Fiats. As time has gone on, these well known members have gone onto other cars - sometimes its another Fiat model (e.g. Adam CinqySXMk2 has gone from a cinq to a Punto, Charlieboy has gone from an Uno to a Punto). Others have gone onto totally different marques - Lora and Dave (WRP) spring to mind straight away. Lora has said before, I believe, that she feels slightly alienated since moving onto her Bug. This should not be allowed to happen IMO. Even though they don't drive Fiats, they could still contribute enormously for the good of the Forum.

Noone's saying that the FF should become a car forum with a hint of Fiat - they are saying yes to a Fiat Forum that is willing to accept that its members can and do drive and own other marques :)

Easily answered. The 'other marques' forum remains as one forum with no sub divisions. Simple :) That way Fiat still dominate, so to speak :)

i think the problem is, some people believe if you're a member of FF you HAVE to own/ drive a fiat.

If people dont like me hanging around when i drive a bug thats fine but keep it to yourself and no i dont want to hear about how ugly you think my car is.

I'm very off and on with the forum now. I used to really enjoy the forum and have made alot of friends here. Maybe having a section with very small writing saying other cars would make ex fiat drivers more welcome ;)

Exactly (y)

I think it would show how mature this forum is and that all other makes of car are not frowned upon just because they are not Fiats.

It would be just like clicking on the Stilo section in the main forum area, it would simply need to be one small section that says all other cars, or None Fiat cars. That way Fiat gets a shout in the title too :D

That's what I thought too. Ex - Fiat drivers can be a worthwhile addition to the forum - alienating them would be a mistake IMO :)

call it ex fiat owners new car section, if it happens, that would stop the outsiders getting in :p no f**ds though

If that happened it would be no problem - even though I still do not see why it is needed- but what would the controls be to stop it just becoming another car forum, only ex fiat forum members allowed? would be rather small:confused:

THAT IS WHAT I HAVE BEEN SAYING ALL ALONG ONLY EX FIAT OWNERS ALLOWED IN

COME ON IF IT DOSENT HAPPEN THEN FINE BY ME, I JUST WANTED TO SEE WHAT PEPOLE THOUGHT

COME ON WE ARE ALL ADULTS (LETS ALL STARTING TO ACT LIKE ONE)

Thanks for the shout I am old but not deaf or blind.:p

My comment still stands if it is only for ex Fiat owners is it people that have belonged to the forum previously only? Or how is it going to function.

Steve

Still not sure why you would want it turned off in the User CP and NEW POSTS - in that case, I never venture into ICE or Security sections myself, so can they be an option as well for me? :)

a small section titled non-fiat shouldnt do any harm, at least we can all laugh when they eventually realise that it a huge mistake to step away from fiat :p

my only really problem is that it would die a death and be pretty empty if only existing members are only going to post in there, but going back to steves post if it gets to big then 'fiat' would be lost

how about create it and review it in 6 months time, may give a better indication then

i also hope that a 'non-fiat' section will not turn out like BB and the cars end up being slated
