Brake Booster O-ring

Ok one more problem that i'm enjoying at the moment...!

The brake booster has started to hiss when the engine is on. Through some interweb research it seems that there's a rubber o-ring that is prone to failing which means the brake booster (which forms a vacuum seal) no longer is forming a decent vacuum.

So options at the moment are to suss out how to remove this o-ring and replace it myself (messing around with brakes (not keen), finding a decent garage that will do the job, or just getting the booster replaced.

Any of you had a similar problem?

Re: Brake Booster O-ring

Hiya "Saint Sedici",

Had a look in the "Training Manual" for you...Not much good sorry (thought we were gonna get a genuine workshop manual when we bought it...... typical!)

Had more than your fair share of bad luck... you've gotta be on the last fix for a while now.

Think ours might just be starting... the dreaded hesitating under 2000 rpm has just returned!!!

Re: Brake Booster O-ring

Yeah, hopefully the last thing! Gradually regaining my trust in the car. Needs to be fit and ready for a European trip later in the year.

I think i'm going to keep a socket set, a few allen keys and an empty (maybe) beer can in the car incase it happens again in some far away land.

Will let you all know how the booster thing goes. It's not degrading at all so will hold out for a bit but want to get it fixed.

This is the closest webpage i've found to my problem so far. http://goo.gl/K806J

p.s. and thanks for the nickname. Not sure I deserve it!

Re: Brake Booster O-ring

Stashing a fulll Beercan sounds a better bet buddy!!!

Tried the blanking off method you suggested on our car.... worked a treat.

Flatspots gone so definetely a problem with the EGR system.

If you hadn't have warned about the engine light being triggered after a few miles.... would have been a bad weekend for myself and anyone in a close distance!!

Hope you get the O-Ring sorted and cheers for the link... may come in handy later.
