Hi there,

Over the holiday period the only key I had for the multipla was relocated who knows where by my toddler. I started to look into getting this sorted out and was perplexed by the time and money this seems to involve.

I've a few questions for the forum:

Fiat code - I purchased the code which I thought would allow a locksmith to create a new key. Got a scruffy printout of screenshot from Fiat parts database with unlabelled 5 digit number and unlabelled 13 digit number. What are these two numbers and do they allow a locksmith to create a new physical key and pair it with the car?

New key from Fiat - If you order a new key from Fiat is it possible then to use the services of autolocksmith to create a second (cheaper) key for the car or must this all be done through Fiat?

Reusing a 'found' key - If the lost key ever turns up is it possible to use this or reprogram it into the car

Thanks in advance,

Goldstien

hello, and welcome,

the 5 digit is to program a NEW key's CHIP to the cars ECU,

I'm assuming the 13 digit is to cut a new key blade..??

traditionally the cheapest way is get a used FIAT key of correct style , and get a good autolocksmith to do the adaptations, however without a key to "scan" this may prove tricky..
ask@ponsaloti if he can do YOUR vehicle..,

please do let us know what you find..,

So here is my findings:

Locksmith had to order key from Fiat directly
Also was asked for the 5 digit code that you get from Fiat

Key coded :)

Tried to start - limply turns over once then nothing
Breakdown service bump starts it - I have to take to garage for new battery and starter motor

An expensive lesson...but running once again.

was it circa. £250 ? for the coded key,

DO NOT go to a garage for BATTERY AND Starter,
chances are you need to deep charge the battery,

1st off - get a basic volt meter, get engine running , check voltage across battery terminals.. should be 14 Volts,( from alternator= "charging")
then turn off engine.. should drop to 12 Volts, ( battery's own charge)

then you'll have a good idea what is working..,
