Scudo 20ltr jtd 8v non starter

Hi all,

New to forum please be gentle..........

Drove the van on wednesday no problems, got in it yesterday to go and price a job, got in put key in ignition turn'd over no problems but not firing. I noticed that the temp gauge was going from 0 deg to overheat ie right left left right.

Had a look around for damaged fuses etc, tried the non chipped key etc but nothing, called the RAC but they were stumped also, now fuel pump is not pumping. Removed the shunt fuse to reset everything temp gauge no longer goes left right etc but still not firing, turns over like normal but not firing.

Sorry forgot to add 2006 model, everything else works fine (ed)

Any ideas being self employed no work no money.

Cheers guys

Daz

Re: Scudo 20ltr jtd 8v non starter

Yeh cheers for reply, have changed 2 relays as told this was a common fault, then advised that the fuel pump may be faulty, changed that, seems that the van has lost the feed to the fuel pump mounted in the tank ??? everything else is fine just not getting fuel from pump.

Is there a fuel pump relay ??? changed the glow plug relay and the anti start relay ??? mounted on the inner wing in the engine bay.

Really stumped need the van on the road asap as i am self employed. Is it possible that the management system has lost its memory ???????

Any one help. PPPPPLLLEEEAAASEEE

Re: Scudo 20ltr jtd 8v non starter

wiring fault...cant help you anymore than that without physically finding the corroded wire for you.

the double relay is a good starting point to find out what is going on & whats not powering up etc

Re: Scudo 20ltr jtd 8v non starter

When you say double relay......... glow plugs etc, the one that has 2 wires connected ??? underside.

Mounted up by the o/s inner engine bay wing just below the bonnet hinge.

Is this a common problem on the pug derived vans as seems a popular thing.

Just to update had a call 10 mins ago regarding fault, now saying engine managment light is not on when key is turned and possible break in the loom in engine bay.............or ECU, but no guarantee of either???? got a free day tommorow so will be thier to help with a bit of luck.

Anyone else had the same problem ????? and what was the outcome

Regards

Daz

Re: Scudo 20ltr jtd 8v non starter

Yes, definitely the DOUBLE relay. Mounted to the side of the glow plug relay.

At a pinch, lever the case apart and clean the relay contacts. Sometimes even bashing the relay works! New relay is best solution though.

I had exact same symptoms on mine.

Did you manage to get this sorted mate? I've got the exact same problem and have changed everything you have. I've even got the engine wiring loom out now

Re: Scudo 20ltr jtd 8v non starter

Hello there,

You can check relays for operation rather then just binning them. a relay is just a switch. Its a lot cheaper then buying new one especially when you start getting into the realms of glow plug relays etc.

You need to determine which is the coil and which one is the switching terminal.

I know its not really helping but your not laying out for new parts that are not needed... Lee

I've already changed all the parts mentioned but thanks for the advice. I've just about given up with the van unless anybody can help

Re: Scudo 20ltr jtd 8v non starter

The fault with my van was a dodgy wiring loom. Been sat on my drive for the last 18 months, had 3 mobile 'mechanics' out who suggested almost every possible cause except for the wiring loom. Thought i'd give the van another go myself last week, got hold of an engine wiring loom, fitted it and bobs your uncle, started and is running perfectly (finally).

Anyway thought i'd post my solution as it may help somebody in the future.
Thanks bigdong thanked for this post

Thank you. It's posting solutions that's most helpful and, I think, adds most value to the forum.
