Wouldn't start after i parked it one day - After having new exhaust bits, full service, new clutch, and rear subframe in the last three months!

AA man spent over an hour on it, couldn't get it started, & wouldn't commit diagnosing problem - Engine turns, but no spark, orange key code light stays on. Towed it home, tried red key - no luck. However, tried it next morning and it started fine - although idling erratically.

Drove it for 6 miles. Parked it, and it wouldn't start again. Disconnedted battery and left for 3 hours. Returned and it started okay. Drove it home - and it wouldn't re-start. Noted that when it doesn't start the key code light is on all the time. When it likely to start the keycode light stays on for a couple of seconds only.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. New key code antenna?, Lambada sensor? (noted exhaust still leaky!), or other?

If code light is staying on, It code be the code ariel, but you can check them - should be between 16-30 ohms approx.Or it could be code unit or the fuel ecu, but replace the code one first as its cheaper., You will then need to reprogramme the keys

The resistance varies between 34.6 ohms and an open circiut, & i can get the car started regularly by rubbing the "blob." I've ordered a new key code sensor/ariel (£20 from Fiat Factory Parts, if anyone else is interested). If you don't hear from me again assume it was this that was causing the problem.

Many thanks for your help.

i got the same prob as fixitquick, sometimes it happens sumtimes it doesnt.
if you get it solved let me know, as at the mo im just cursing and swearing at it [:0] it doesnt work but it makes me feel better. :)

I've replaced the code ariel, but still got the problem. I keep ariel permamently "free", and when I put it right next to the key I can get the car started, say, once in three tries. If I keep the ariel clipped in its proper place I can't get the car started at all!

Had to get a new fuel filter replaced a couple of days ago due to a bad fuel leak. The mechanic, after calling fiat garage, reckons I need to reprogram keys?? I need to take the red & blue key to have this done. Anyone know about/come across this? Also, he suggested that may need to get the ecu memory cleared as It may be recalling a previous problem and may be refusing to let the car start.

Often I get a gurgling noise for about five seconds when I try to start the car - previously I got a smooth hum for a few seconds.
could it be a fuel thing that is causing the starting problem?

Any thoughtson what should I do try next? Anyone?
