Hey, after almost 2yrs in the shed, it's begun - Dave's got the top end gubbins off my 1242 mk1 Cab engine. Next, once the engine's out, take bottom end along to check it looks same when we go buy a 04-07 Stilo or 03-07 Idea 1368 motor. We take the top off that and then we discover whether its 1368 piston crowns will live with the 1242 head's combustion chambers and valves. All being well, reassemble and I have a 1368 ELX95 Cab.
I.e. 'new' 1368 block under the complete unaltered ex-1242 ELX85 head, injection, wiring, ECU etc. We hope the ECU will compensate for the larger capacity without tweaking - Dave is an injection mechanic by training.
At 140k, the old engine failed MOT on emissions. The head was somewhat overhauled 10k miles ago so is ideal to pair up with a younger block.
While it's out, we will drop in a 6 speed box from 01-07 Stilo or 07 Bravo. That's not a close-ratio conversion - gears 1 to 5 are identical with the ELX85 5-speeder - it provides an 'overdrive' 6th, as the 5 speed Cab is a bit of a screamer at Mway speed.
But we will avoid the almost identical 01-07 Idea box because although its gears 1 to 4 and 6 are same, its 5th is a bit higher i.e. a significantly bigger 4th to 5th step.
