What's the Weber Marelli reference on the ECU?

Time to get to the bottom of this!

The 1.6 sporting engine has a GM ecu, same as some random old corsa but the diagnostics side of it is different so i have read. This is why none of us have really got much experience with them, from what i have read online because the diagnostics port is different and some things have been changed in it from when it was in the GM cars you can't use the programs that the corsa people used - although of course that might not be true and they will work as i have never tried it...... It maybe possible to use whatever they use (searching an appropriate forum should find that out) and ye olde fiat 3pin to OBD & OBD to USB adaptors. But cannot be sure.

attached is a pic of an ecu from a 1.6 sporting, you can just about make out all the numbers and stuff from it.

The times this comes up ie, poor performance, engine running rich, EML light on intermittently.
Its my guess that the valve timing is out by a notch - this should be done before you change all the sensors! It costs nothing to check it out.
Tony.

I've checked the timing on the car and the notches on top cam and crankshaft meet every 2 turns I tdc
With no 1 piston at top will see if new plugs will do the trick all sensors have been replaced on car so that should rule that out looking at plugs and coil pack again

you should have enough info now to start ringing places, dealerships and fiat specialists to ask if they can read codes from the car - stipulating that its a 1.6 8v sporting, the one with the GM ecu. You certainly can't think about buying examiner from what i have seen from a quick serach, cost more than the car is worth !! lol

With the code you should be able to fix this easy peasy and stop guessing and buying stuff left right and centre.

One problem is Autodata suggests lining up the small mark on the front of crankshaft. The correct way to set TDC is to get a torch and a mirror and observe the marks thro the hole in top of clutch housing.

Okay guys you were right it isn't the plugs grghhhhh going to do a compression test to see if it is what fingers said if not I'm lost for ideas

I have noticed that when I disconnect the lambda whilst car running nothing happens to idle on car only throws a eml light I have power to the sensor and output

These are pics of problem getting and ecu I have and engine bay where it is connected

Ok guys I've done dry compression test not sure if it was right how I did it I took all four plugs out and disconnected the coil pack and the crank sensor I didn't know if I had to disconnect fuel injectors left them connected and turn it over a few times on each cylinder here is the results and plugs look ok ImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1400265060.469625.jpgImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1400265075.556587.jpgImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1400265176.374394.jpg

I have a noid test kit to check iac and fuel injectors harness will test spark output with plug indicator aswell spark plugs not flooded with petrol or deposits and water not contaminated by oil or the over way around will look at injectors and fuel pressure to it has new pump on car not sure if it is pushing the right psi had new fuel filter put on no different

It's very strange car goes really quick no hesitation at all performance is great and better then when I got it but it pops a lot more when you release off the throttle whilst driven and gives a tiny tiny putt every 2 seconds when ideal but doesn't putt when accelerating only when down gears to slow down and you can feel it holding back as if brakes are binding

Do you think cat can cause this problem ? I have looked at it and it looks clean as a whistle inside and shiny

I also know when you take throttle body vacuum tube off whilst running you can hear the air making a uneven sssssshhhhhhh noise sounds more like a dentist suction tool any ideas
