im not fantastic with cars, but this punto has cost us a fortune already.

1999 T reg punto team TD60

shes smoking very bad constantly above 40mph, once you hit 50mph or above she starts to loose power and makes a noise as if you had stuck your foot down on the accelerator.

the smoke is black and very thick..

she will loose power and then come back to life within a few seconds and do it again about 30 secs later, to keep her running smoothly i have to keep her at about 40-45mph.

are there any suggestions as to what this may be? we have just changed all filters as well, but this did not work.

Sounds like a burst turbo air hose or the turbo itself has failed.

Thanks, sounds like it will be expensive then?

after we changed the filters it was fine for about 15-20 miles from cold and after that is when it starts to play up. does this link in with what you have suggested or would it play up from the start if it was the turbo?

before filters were changed it was bad from about 5 miles once she got hot.


how would we check the hoses?

i would have thought a bad timing advance may also cause this...

Make sure all the turbo pipes are intact and solid.

Occasionally you can get a hose collapse when the hose gets warm which stalls the turbo.

A burst hose will be cheap enough gaffa tape will do a temporary fix
