alright, so i finally have money to spend on me car:D

not a lot, but its still something.
i have an 02 plate grey mk2 5dr active, running on steelies atm. no mods to it, minus a focus induction kit.

im looking at alloys and lowering springs to start off, then eventually a backbox.

would a set of black GT alloys go better on it than mk2 sporting alloys? (if at all)?

i understand they're 14".. so would a 40mm/35mm front/rear respectively go ok with them? though i live in wales.. so in addition to the bad roads there are cattlegrids and speed bumps to consider.
cheers all.

Both sizes will fit, just need to choose the correct tyre sizes...

14" alloys - 185/60 R14
15" alloys - 185/55 R15

Weirdly both me (mk1) and my girlfriend (mk2) have the same 14" alloys. However, due to the smaller overall wheel diameter, I'm running /55 profile which looks right. On mk1 alloys, you would be running /60 profile which gives a bit too much sidewall-tyre ratio on the mk2. I reckon the 15" wheels would look better.

thanks for the quick reply mate.

so you're saying that if I went for the 14" GT wheels, I should be looking at /55 to reduce the length of the tyre from the rim to the outside? I'm not very educated when it comes to tyres and rims.

so what about the springs with those wheels?

cheers again.

You could go with /55 profile on 14" GT wheels, however, your total wheel+tyre diameter will be too small. Not a huge problem though since your speedometer will be overreading and the car will ride a few mm lower. Might look small in the arches though. I still think mk2 sporting 15" alloys and 185/55 R15 tyres would be better, and preserve your total wheel+tyre diameter.

Alright, cheers man.

I suspect that those alloys are well above my budget but I have PM'd him anyway, cheers for the find! Appreciate all the help you're giving me.
