ive taken my centre console off a few times to install neons there and change the heater controls ad lights ( see my gellery ).

in order:

- Take out the back ashtray (behind handbrake) and unscrew it
- underneath you will find a nut, unbolt it
- remove the 'coin holder' ( under the handbrake ) by prising it open with a screwdriver ( gear stick end is best )
- under that you will find a 2 nuts, unbolt them
- remove the gear stick gaitor (prise open) and pull up, you will find 2 large screws (centre console end), unscrew.
-now pull up the console, tight through the seats, but force it up and off.

- now you can get the centre console off by unscrewing the 4 screws ( 1 on each side of the console, in the footwells and 1 on each side under the ashtray, where the cup holders are.
-once these are all out just pull from the bottom ( this is why you must remove the other hanbrake console bit first)
- you will notice the switches (elec windows etc) are still there but these can b removed by unscrewing the unit.

There you have it, refitting is opposite to removal

Please excuse my ignorance, I don't know what year the MK2 is. Are the 2 simple clips the same for the 04 model? I'm trying to do similar to get a 12V ignition switched feed from the cigarette lighter to feed a parrot car kit. I had a quick go at removing the fuse panel earlier today but thought it might be quicker and easier to take the feed from the back of the lighter instead. Tried pulling the lighter out from the front but quite bothered about doing damage. Any suggestions regards the removal of the cigarette dash area or any suggestions to easily get a ignition feed for the car kit would be very helpful!!
