Hi,
I'm having trouble starting my GT3, I thought I'd cured it with a New battery, HT leads, plugs, AFM, Cold start sensor, Fuel Filter and I've also cleaned the ICV and fuel pump...but its still not starting properly. I pulled off the starter motor and had it checked and its working O.K. so I don't think its that.

I'll try and explain in detail...

When I turn the ignition when the cars been left a bit e.g overnight, it finally turns over, but starts all lumpy and then just cuts out (its a bit like its got a flat battery). I do this a couple of times before it starts properly. Now I've read the ICV is 'supposed' to have a gasket on the GT3, but I never noticed one on mine when I cleaned it out, could it be something as simple as this? Also if the ICV was fooked wouldn't it effect the car idling all the time not just on start up?

I'm totally confused because the car runs perfect, its just when I come to start it up after leaving it a few hours.

Any help & advice is appreciated as usual

Si

I've had a look at the ICV gasket and I think theres one there + if it was that I think I'd be having problems idling.

Could it be a relay that controls the AFM etc? I'm running out of ideas of what it could be, I may have to take it to a garage and have a diagnostic check on it.

Thanks,
Si

Theres alot of GT3 that has this problem and its quite unknown what is the cause, next time before you start your car tap the idle control valve on top of the injection plenum, if it starts then you will need a new one, also when the car is about to die on first start up try dipping the clutch twice see if that prevents it from cutting out.

Cheers.

I don't think its the ICV as the car idles fine, it doesn't cut out once its been running for a few mins. If it was the ICV it would effect idling all the time wouldn't it

I found a loose earth last night, connected it back and hoped it was that when I started it this morn...it wasn't, it was still the same!

I'm thinking its maybe a dodgy Coil pack? It feels like that kind of thing if you know what I mean, like its not getting power to the plugs properly. Can't be plugs or leads as they're brand new, so I'm thinking its the Coil.

If its driving okay, but just not idling or starting properly its possibly the ICV, but to me sounds more like a AFM problem but your replaced it so that cant be the problem, maybe a faulty temperature sensor? Have you tryed resetting the ECU yet, as you should when you replace sensors.

I've buckled and left it at a garage near work for a diagnostic check.

It could be a number of things and in this case I think its worth finding out exactly what the problem is, big or small...I'm hoping its the latter :)

Yeah, as ive said its a common problem with the GT3, ive heard some peoples problem with it and there replaced pretty much everything you can to battery, lambda sensor, AFM, even someone had a engine rebuild and the starting problem still occurred, hopefully it finds the problem mate. (y)

Picked it up before and it was the ICV all along, the codes have been cleared, so i'll see what its like over the next few days, if its still the same i'll get a new ICV.

Cheers for the help (y)
